. . 'fm€uxm numm-m. Discovery. Neon was discovered in 1898 by 'William Ramsay and Morris Travers' at 'University College London' shortly after the discovery of krypton in the same year. They both froze argon sample with the help of liquid air and slowly evaporated argon under low pressure to collect the new gas. They applied a high voltage to a vacuum tube placed with the obtained gas sample to observe the spectrum. Interestingly, they perceived a brilliant glow, which had never been seen before. The scientists named the new gas neon, which means "new" in Latin.
