Strategies for successful career  in corporate

1.Hi everyone, I am Neel  K edia ,Thanks Harshad for having me here  ,About answer to your 1 st  question,  I have Started career with Crompton greaves consumer electrical limited in sales. Worked for 16 months and decided to pursue higher education.  Kept options open to pursue GATE for joining PSUs as well as MBA entrance exams. Eventually got admitted to MBA and later placed with current organization Hempel paints through campus selection. Started career through a leadership development program in the company to eventually decided to pursue a role in Marketing - Business Intelligence

2.Very few people can have clarity on what they like doing and what they want to pursue as their career. However discipline and consistency are important. Clarity comes by experimenting at work doing things hands on– taking up projects from different departments and finding what one finds most interesting.   3. Well HARSHAD, Campus placement from Engineering does help quick launch one’s career but not getting a placement through campus is not the end of the world. The skills and capabilities matter more. If one has the right skill sets, the person is bound to succeed.

4.That’s great question by the way , Sales and marketing as a start point is great if the person is more inclined to be a generalist in career. Sales and Marketing teach business skills to add up to existing technical skills coming from engineering education. If the person intends to become a specialist within a specific Engineering subject/ domain, Sales and Marketing role is a step in the wrong direction. MBA is not essential, but it helps develop communication skills which are indispensable in any field of work.   Harshad asked this question If you see someone placed on campus and another not placed, what difference do you see in both students? Neel replied on same -There is no one right answer to this as there can be multiple factors that decide whether a person gets placed through campus. There is also a factor of chance involved. However, a person with right skill set and a desire to keep learning will eventually succeed irrespective of how the career starts after education.

4.That’s great question by the way , Sales and marketing as a start point is great if the person is more . Harshad : As we both are in the middle of our career we call it an early adopter our initial phase of learning early starter or freshers image is now changed to experienced personality in corporate ,we are not talking about always success or failure but we reach at good point or say level at our career ,what advice you want to give to young graduate who is average students after 8 years they we at our position... Neel: Keep learning, keep exploring different roles in different functions to understand what is it that really drives you.

Harshad Sanap: What is your definition of success? Neel: Being able to provide enough for my dear ones while keeping sufficient control over my own time.   Harshad Sanap: How do you maintain work life balance? Neel: I work for a company which values work-life balance for everyone. Everyone at work understands that work is just a small part of one’s life and there are bigger things outside of work. So we live our own interests outside work while having fun at what we do during work hours. Harshad Sanap: would like to say thanks to any of your corporate gurus who teach you great. lessons or key skills to be in position today you are ? Neel :The list would be nearly endless and everyone who I have worked with has contributed to my learning. However, if I were to name just the most important people, it would be my ex-manager in my current company – Mr. Mads  Pallesen  who still continues to be my support system and my dedicated mentor in my current organization – Mr. Jens Ostendorf who I always look up to for guidance and support on everything inside as well as outside of work.
