The ISO story began in  1946  when delegates from  25  countries met at the Institute of Civil Engineers in London and decided to create a new international  organisation  “to facilitate the international co-ordination and unification of industrial standards”. On Feb  23,  1947  the new organization ISO, officially began operations. ISO is a Non-Governmental Organization which was founded on Feb  23, 1947  and its head quarter is situated in Geneva, Switzerland. ISO published its first standard, ISO/R  1:1951  (Standard Reference Temperature for Industrial Length Measurements), in  1951 . The standard is now known as ISO  1:2016   a s  of  2018.

In  1980,  Technical Committee of  176   was formed. In  1987 ,  First Version of ISO  9001   was released. In  1994 ,  First Review of ISO   9001   was done. In  1996 ,  First Version of ISO  14001  and   14004   was released. In  1999 ,  First Version of OHSAS  18000  was released. In  1999,  First Version of ISO/TS  16949  was released. In  2000,  Second Review of ISO  9001   was done. In  2002,  Second Review of ISO/TS  16949  was done. In  2004,  Second Review of ISO  14001  was done. In  2005,  First Version of ISO  22000  was released.

In  2007,  Second Review of ISO  18001  was done. In  2009,  Third Review of ISO/TS  16949   was done. In  2008,  Third Review of ISO  9001   was done. In  2015,  Fourth Review of ISO  9001   was done and Third Review of ISO  14001   was done. In  2016,  Fourth Review of ISO/TS  16949  was done. In  2018,  Second Review of ISO  22000  was done and ISO  18001   was replaced with ISO  45001.

Total  165  worldwide countries are associated with ISO  and about  160  people work full time for  Central  Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland . BIS (Bureau Of Indian Standards)  represents India in ISO. NABCB (National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies) is one of the accredited certification body in India which uses CASCO standard . India associated with ISO since Feb  23, 1947. Presently about  23900  Standards has been published by ISO.
