IT MAY 'ENCROACH' DGTE PORT TERRITORY
Two officials of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) in Dumaguete City expressed
their objection to the controversial 174 -hectare "Smart City" reclamation project, as
part of it is within the Port Zone Delineation (PZD) of the Dumaguete Port based on
the initial images of the plan released by the city government. If the project
becomes a reality, PPA officials said, it will cause an "obstruction," especially in the
anchorage areas of the port.

The Sangguniang Barangay of Apo Island in Dauin passed a
resolution opposing the massive reclamation project in
Dumaguete City.
The resolution also cites the protection of their island's protected
landscape and seascape from severe ecosystem damage and
potential ecological disaster.
The island barangay government urges Dumaguete City to
"rethink this 174-hectare reclamation project."

OF DUMAGUETE'S FIGHT AGAINST
RECLAMATION PROJECT
Archbishop Jose Palma of Cebu defended the stand of the Diocese of Dumaguete against a
controversial mega reclamation project.
In a statement Saturday, he echoed the concerns of the diocese on the proposed IN-hectare
reclamation project in Dumaguete City. The church, according to him, is not against development
as it is, "but there are parameters that we have to consider and work within too".
"Development should have a human face one that adheres to and primarily attends to the
general welfare of the people first and foremost before anything else," Palma said.
