[Audio] Camelon Early Learning and Childcare Centre Ben Tee to Ben Nevis Transition Information.

Scene 2 (10s)

[Audio] About Our Transitions from the Ben Tee to Ben Nevis Playroom... Here, at Camelon Early Learning and Childcare Centre, we have a child-centred approach to Transitions. Our transition process will be tailored to each individual child to ensure we are supporting and meeting their needs. The team will keep families up-to-date with how your child is transitioning throughout their play date visits. Visits and start dates may be adapted to best support your child through this process. Your child will move to the Ben Nevis Playroom a month after their third birthday. However, their visits will start prior to this to ensure they are settled in for then. Throughout the year we support transitions by having regular opportunities for our Ben Tee and Ben Nevis learners to spend time together, participate in experiences together and visit the other playroom. This proved to be a very successful addition to our transition process last year as our learners transitioned very smoothly to the Ben Nevis Playroom. Scene 3 (2m 16s)

[Audio] We understand that families may be nervous about their child transitioning into a new playroom, however, it is important to remember that children are finely attuned to the emotions of adults and this could impact on your child’s transition. Therefore, we encourage families to work closely with our team and be open and honest about your feelings about your child entering their new playroom. We are here to support all children and their families as they embark on this new journey. There will be opportunities for families to visit the playroom and meet the team before and during your child’s transition. Prior to your child’s first visit their current key worker will meet with their new key worker to pass on all relevant information. This will include any information about their daily routine (e.g. rest/nap), toileting information, dietary details and play & learning developments. [Audio] Frequently asked questions… Q. What does our transition process look like? Our transition process begins as soon as your child is settled into Camelon ELC Centre. We have regular opportunities for learners to use different play spaces within the Centre and to meet and spend time with the Ben Nevis Playroom Team. Before your child officially starts in the Ben Nevis Playroom they will have visits planned and this will be shared with you in a letter to keep you informed. Q. Will I be told if my child has been upset? Yes, when receiving feedback about your child’s day our educators will be open and honest. It is very normal for children to become upset during new transitions, however, our team will support and comfort children through this. There are no set timescales for transitions, some children may start their transitions with ease and then begin to become unsettled as they become more familiar. Q. What if my child is not settling? Your child’s visit times will be adapted to ensure that these are manageable for your child. Regular child-centred opportunities for talk and discussion, stories and play will be offered to allow children to express their feelings that they may have about their new playroom. Remember this is a not an unfamiliar space as your child is used to moving around the Centre to different rooms. Q. Will my child’s hours be reduced during this transition process? If your child is unsettled during this process educators from the Ben Tee Playroom will visit to support them and, where required, they will be able to go back to the Ben Tee Playroom. Therefore, it should not be required for your child’s hours to be reduced..

Scene 5 (5m 56s)

[Audio] Q. Who will be my child’s key worker and how is this decided? We aim to match your child with a key worker who we believe they will be well suited with. You will be informed about your child’s new key worker before they begin their transitions to the Ben Nevis Playroom. Q. How will I receive daily feedback? When collecting your child an educator will verbally pass on what play and learning opportunities your child has participated in and a general update about their day. Unlike the Ben Tee Playroom, we do not use daily sheets within the Ben Nevis Playroom. We encourage your child to share their experiences throughout their day. However, if your child is unable to communicate this we will tailor this approach, and ensure you are informed about the important information. Q. Can my child bring a comforter? A small comforter can be brought to support and comfort your child through their transition. As your child begins to settle and has less need for the comforter the use of these will be minimal. This will be communicated with families and we may recommend that the comforters can stay safe at home..
