Structure. Derived from National Standards Entry and Level 1 region of 50GLH, 50 TQT 5 Units 1 Examination 3 Practical tasks.
Funding. Both the Entry and Level qualifications are fully funded under a new legal entitlement, solely for these qualifications It doesn’t impact entitlements to other funding sources or the funding of other qualifications For 2020-21 the funding is set at a maximum of £300 per learner.
Costs. Centre status per annum is £600 Centre Monitoring visits at £300 (Discount if Centre attends TLM workshop) Registration of learners charged upfront at £18 per learner 1 free component resit permitted Additional resits at £5.
Units. Unit 1 Using Devices and Handling Information Unit 2 Creating and Editing Unit 3 Communicating Unit 4 Transacting Unit 5 Being Safe and Responsible On- line.

How are Units assessed?. Practical tasks – focused on these Units: Unit 2 Creating and Editing Unit 3 Communicating Unit 4 Transacting.
How do Practical assessments work?. 1 hour ‘ tutor supervised time ’ 3 x practical tasks focus on three Units (1 per Unit) Practical tasks can normally be completed in <1 hour - allows for set-up, phasing etc. Mark schemes provided, tutor observations, capture evidence Upon request assessments are available to Centres within a 14x day window.
How do Practical assessments work - 2?. At the lower Entry level, tasks are more basic: Formatting simply – changing text colour for example Capture and save images, sound and video. Editing text includes entering or amending, selecting, copying, cutting and pasting text At higher Level 1, tasks more demanding: Edit and enhance an image Format tables/graphics/charts includes positioning, sizing, captioning, borders, flow of text.
Creating and editing … typical tasks. Navigating to a file Opening a ‘Word’ document Searching for information on Internet Transcribing – copy & paste Cutting, copying and pasting text, graphics Formatting text – how it appears, position on page Re-sizing a graphic Writing a short message, piece of text See specification for tasks at each level.
Communicating … typical tasks. Receiving a video call Making a video call Instant messaging Sharing access to online content Create, edit and use contacts Communicate in different contexts, i.e. home, social, work Know and understand terminology and concepts relating to communication tools – email, texting and messaging apps. Transacting … typical tasks. Complete and submit a form Complying with verification checks Selecting an item – searching using ‘shopping sites’ Using ‘drop down’ search tools Using ‘online payment’ to buy an item Choose features of an item when given options, i.e. item costs less than £200 Uploading/downloading of documents and images as required See specification for tasks at each level.

How do Examinations work?. 1 x Examination 15 x Multiple-choice questions Online completion Examinations unlocked after completion of Practical tasks.
How does qualification work - 1?. 3 x Practical tasks and Examination components are all weighted equally Compensatory model – marks aggregated across 4 x components A specific level of achievement against Learning outcomes overall is required to reach ‘Pass’ level Completion of examination – marks moderated by TLM, Awards made.

. How does qualification work -2?. A minimum of three sets of assessment components are available at any one time Sets will be retired and replaced at least every 12 months from the time of their first use Where Candidates fail the qualification – information provided on components that have been ‘failed’.

Resits - 1. If learners fail a qualification, they may resit the ‘failed’ components of assessment they need to increase their aggregate score They may carry forward the results from component tasks that have been ‘achieved’ To allow for additional teaching and learning time, Centres should allow at least 2 x weeks between a ‘failed’ test and a Resit.

Resits - 2. 2 x component Resits per candidate are normally allowed per year First Resit of a component will be free Second Resit of a component will typically cost £5 The system is designed so a learner cannot resit the same test stream (A, B or C) If a candidate has had 2 x component Resits, it might be possible for the learner to take a third Resit, but the Centre Principal Assessor must contact TLM for approval.
