He called it an "automatic, continuous clothing closure" Elias Howes patent eventually got to Whitcomb L Judson who called it a "clasp-locker" and presented it at the worlds fair held in Chicago in 1893 but the public did not take any interest in it. The "clasp-locker" was made of hooks and eyes..

The zipper was officially named the "zipper" by B.F Goodrich in 1923 considering it an onomatopoeia which is when something is named what it sounds like, like zzzipp..

[Audio] The zipper was first used as a shoe fastener on rubber boots sold by B.F Goodrich's company. The U.S Army started using zippers in troops clothing during World War 1 and by the late 1920's zippers were being used on men's pants and other pieces of clothing. As time went on the zipper continued to progress, grow, and be used for many more things, like today we use zippers for clothes, shoes ,toys ,fidget's, bedding and even more. Zippers even have different sizes now. The zipper has come a long way and will only continue to grow and be used for more things in the future as they are convenient and useful..
