Scene 2 (10s)

[Audio] The 5S method is a system that aims to promote and sustain high levels of productivity and safety throughout an organization.. Manufacturing companies use the 5S to achieve an overall improvement in efficiency, product quality, a satisfaction of employees.

Scene 3 (28s)

[Audio] Sort is a way to organise and clear up a workspace by removing everything that doesn't need to be there. By sorting, Boeing can analyse the environment and what is contains so they can improve the safety of the work area. They will examine the objects in the work area an question their Prescence and purpose everything will have. Then they will be able to eliminate things that are a waste of space An example of sort activities that Boeing uses: They will remove any obsolete or broken equipment and parts that will have accumulated over time. They will surplus them out or any scrap metal will be sold off for salvage. They also will take stock of all items present in the workplace and identify extraneous ones. Taking this step ensures a clear work environment that ultimately eliminates distractions one's work..

Scene 4 (1m 25s)

[Audio] Set in order is to organize and arrange everything so they have a specific place to go which will make is easy to access, find and return. Doing the set-in order phase meant that there was more functional space to be used and it was easier to find everything. The equipment that is left once the sort phase has been completed will need to be organised so everything gets its own place. An example of this that Boeing used was they created a shadow board for the tools and boxed off the areas using tape for toolboxes and test equipment so they always had a specific location. This meant that there was more functional space.

Scene 5 (2m 4s)

[Audio] The shine phase means to clean on a regular basis An example of Boeing doing this is they would clean the floors and if necessary, they would be re-conditioned. Areas that are set aside for remaining equipment will be repainted or outlined. In a workshop the application of paint on the walls and equipment can have positive effect on staff productivity. Broken equipment would need to be repaired at this time. Time must be set aside to periodically clean and restore any improvements made. This step promotes safety for employees by making it easy to spot when something is out of order ,this prevents mistakes and deterioration of surroundings. Giving employees a sense of ownership and pride in their workspace leads to a cultural shift that is transferrable to the actual work itself.

Scene 6 (2m 57s)

[Audio] Standardise is to put all the systems in place to ensure that everyone is doing it the same way. Procedures for shop cleanup and management of the new environment needs to be trained and enforced thought the workplace. If identical work is performed in different workshops or in different locations they must communicate to do everything the same way as each other so it is easy to understand the processes.

Scene 7 (3m 23s)

[Audio] Sustain is to keep the system going and to be consistent at it until they become automatic. This usually is the most challenging part of the processes Keeping the workplace to standard requires intention from managers to their employees, everyone participating and investing in maintaining the standardization process by making it a way of life in the workplace. Self-discipline and regular evaluation of whether standards are being met must be revised to evolve with growth. Here Boeing go back and restart the process to make sure that standards were kept high as otherwise the company would have to fall back to the beginning of the whole process..
