Scene 1 (0s)

Ghana's Prime Minister Dr Kwame Nkrumah returned to London August 12 from Balmoral, Scotland, where he was the first coloured African ruler to visit Queen Elizabeth. At London Airport Dr Nkrumah, accompanied by Ghana Cabinet Secretary Enoch Okoh and Chairman of the Ghana Development Commission Sir Robert Jackson, was greeted by a number of Government officials including Lord Hailsham . During his brief stay at Balmoral Castle the Prime Minister was made a member of "Her Majesty's most honourable Privy Council". In a statement released in London during the day Dr Nkrumah said: "I am authorised by Her Majesty to say that she has assured me of her intention to visit Ghana as soon as she is able to do so. Her Majesty hopes that she and the Duke of Edinburgh will be able to do this early in 1961. "I have also discussed with the Duke of Edinburgh the possibility of a short visit by him to Ghana this autumn, during which he could pay special attention to development and scientific research. I greatly hope that this will be feasible and after my return to Accra I will let His Royal Highness know if it can be arranged.
