Scene 4

A long time ago, in a village at Air  Manis  beach, Padang, West Sumatra, lived an old woman named  Mande   Rubayah . She lived there with her son named  Malin   Kundang .  Mande   Rubayah  loved him and cared about  Malin   Kundang .  Malin  was a diligent and caring son.

Scene 5

When  Malin  grew up, he asked  Mande   Rubayah's  permission to go to the city, because at that time there was a big ship at Air  Manis  beach.  At first,  Mande   Rubayah  was worried about  Malin   Kundang's  condition, but  Malin   Kundang  tried to convince his mother that he will be okay.  After that,  Mande   Rubayah  let  Malin   Kundang  went to the city.

Scene 6

Day by day passed. Every morning and evening  Mande   Rubayah  always came to the beach to check if there were any ships that came to the beach. She always asked people about  Malin's  condition, but no one knows it.  Malin  never gave a message or a gift to her mother.

Scene 7

Until someday,  Mande   Rubayah  got some news that  Malin   Kundang  was Married to a beautiful and rich woman.  Mande   Rubayah  was happy to hear that news. She always prayed for  Malin , wishing him to be healthy and that he could came to see her. But months after,  Malin  still didn't come.

Scene 8

After a long time, a ship was seen sailing to the shore of Air  Manis  Beach.  A pair of young women and men inside the ship caught  Mande   Rubayah’s  eye. Their clothes looked so shiny and they looked very happy because they were greeted by a festive crowd.

Scene 9

Mande   Rubayah  walked toward the ship. However, her heart started to beat so fast when she saw a familiar face of a young man which she was certain that he is her son,  Malin   Kundang .

Scene 10

Mande   Rubayah  immediately approached  Malin  and hugged him tightly. She was afraid to lose him again.  Malin   Kundang  was so surprised to be embraced by an old woman who was dressed in rags. He couldn’t believe that the old woman was his mother.
