Scene 2

The poem,“ The Black Man's Son,” was  written  by Oswald Durand .  It is about a dark skin twenty year old man who loves a white woman named Lise .  But the problem was that he was too dark for her .  His mother was as white as Lise and his father was more black than him .

Scene 3

The poet’s intend for the reader to understand how the protagonist feels for his love for Lise .  The poet also wants the reader to know why the protagonist is in love with Lise and why he can’t date her or be with her. The poet says, “ The Black Man’s son struck fear into the white folk’s daughter.” This helps the reader to understand why he can’t be with Lise and how the protagonist feels.

Scene 4

The poet creates a romantic atmosphere in the poem. The poet used words like, “ She too had shining eyes of blue” and “ And when she blushed in fear or in delight Pomegranates seemed to bloom.” He describes how beautiful Lise is in these lines.

Scene 5

The poet’s tone is Sympathy. The poets tell us how in love he is for Lise. The poet’s sympathy can be seen when he says, “ The black man’s son struck fear in the white folks’ daughter.” This shows that he understands how the  protagonist  feels.

Scene 6

The theme of the poem is, “You should not  judge  a book by its cover.” Although the protagonist was black and Lise was white, He could have been the most  kindness and caring person and he could have treated Lise with the love that she deserves.

Scene 7

The language the poet used is formal. The poet used Standard English and the poem had no conversations and it shows the poem from the protagonist perspective.

Scene 8

I liked how the poet was describing and  explaining  in detail how the protagonist saw Lise and he even explained how he felt about Lise and why he couldn’t be with Lise.
