PIHE Bedfordview general  library services The library provides the following services to students and staff: Information  and reference/research assistance  Library  instruction/Information Literacy Books  and other items such as DVDs Internet  & online resources Computers  and wireless access Photocopying , printing Patron  Borrowing Privileges Resource Centre Books are issued on your student card, ensure you bring your card all the time. Undergraduate students are allowed to take out maximum of three books Open Collection Books are loaned for 7 days. Short Loan Books are loaned out for 3hrs. Books may be renewed twice, unless it’s reserved by another student.  Resource Centre Books must be  returned/renewed  on time before or on the actual due date. Overdue  Books Overdue Short Loan books are fined R100 per hour per book Open Collection Books are fined R5 per day per  book Media Collection (e.g.  DVD) R5  per item per day Lost , damaged and unreturned items For  all lost items, the student is to provide a replacement copy, or the replacement cost of the book, Borrowers should not deface, mark, cut, mutilate or damage library resources in any way. If a student is found doing so, they will have to provide a replacement copy in good condition, or to pay the replacement cost of the book. Items borrowed should be protected from rain, dust, etc .

Items not returned within 30 days after the due date will be considered lost. Number of item Loans per Patron Undergraduates	: 3 Post Graduates	: 5 Online Resources in the Resource Center What is  MyLibrary ? An Online Library catalogue that allows patrons to access Information Sources  that are in your Library and also on online Databases. Example:  Proquest ,  Proquest   ebook  Central DOAJ, DOAB etc. One can access  MyLibrary  at any given time, wherever you are as long as you are a registered student. MyLibrary  allows you to : See books you loaned out Blocks and Fines accumulated  Request books that are available in other campuses Save your searches, enabling you to access your search history What is  ProQuest ProQuest  Central is the largest, multidisciplinary, full-text database available in the market today. This resource provides access to 47 of  ProQuest's  complete databases, with a variety of  content types  across over 175 subjects, making this the broadest single research resource in the world. Unlike other resources,  ProQuest  Central is made up of separate, fully searchable  databases which  may be used together or separately.  ProQuest  Central won the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) 2010  CODiE  Award for Best Online General Reference Service.

Subject areas covered in  ProQuest  Central include: Business The inclusion of ABI/INFORM Collection gives access to thousands of journals specifically on business, economics, accounting, finance, management, taxation, law as well as a comprehensive collection of top market, industry, and country reports from Economist Intelligence Unit, BMI, ISI Emerging Markets, and more. Science & Technology Seven new databases have just been added to enhance and strengthen this collection! The new databases include: Advanced Technologies & Aerospace Database, Agriculture Science Database, Biological Science Collection, Earth, Atmospheric & Aquatic Science Database, Engineering Database, Environmental Science Database, and Materials Science Database.  You now have access to even more important full-text, impact factored journals, including publishers like Nature Publishing Group and Springer. Health and Medical With  ProQuest  Health and Medical Collection,  ProQuest  Nursing and Allied Health Database, Consumer Health Database, Healthcare Administration Database, Public Health Database, and Psychology Database, users have access to a truly international resource, with content from 45 different countries. This comprehensive collection includes full-text journals, as well as scholarly resources such as dissertations, professional literature, and practical medical training videos. Social Sciences ProQuest  Central features scholarly journals, and professional journals in all the fields within social and political sciences with complete resources such as Criminal Justice Database, Education Database, Library Science Database, Linguistics Database, Political Science Database, Social Science Database, and Sociology Database.

Arts and Humanities Comprehensive coverage of the humanities, arts, and culture with over 1,000 titles in the main subject areas including literature, history, religion, philosophy, and fine and performing arts. Arts & Humanities Database, Religion Database, and full-text titles from Research Library provide journals, magazines, and professional publications. News ProQuest  Central contains over 2,000 full-text news titles from hundreds of global news organizations, such as Wall Street Journal*, The Guardian, El  Mundo , Financial Times, The Times of India, The New York Times, Die Welt, and Le Monde, Los Angeles Times, and Al  Bawaba  news publications. Content is added daily to  ProQuest  Central, with major newspapers loading by 8am on the day of the publication. Accessing  ProQuest Step 1 Go to  MyLMS  and click  Mylibrary  catalogue Step 2 Click ‘library search’ box, and type  ProQuest  and select the first option of the results retrieved. Step 3 click ' Ebook  Central Academic Complete' under the section  “full  text  availability“ to which you will be automatically redirected to  ProQuest Step 4 You will be able to navigate  ProQuest , search for resources, download items, and or generate references automatically.
