[Audio] RESIDENT ORIENTATION NORMANTON RECOVERY & WELLBEING SERVICE. Our focus is on supporting Aboriginal communities in developing their own solutions to living long healthy lives; strengthening culture; and regaining our spirit. Acknowledgement of Traditional Owners and Country: The Normanton Recovery and Community Wellbeing Service ( NRCWS) would like to respectfully acknowledge the Kukatj, Gkuthaarn and Kurtijar peoples, the Traditional Owners of the land on which the NRCWS residence is located. The NRCWS would also like to pay their respects to the Traditional Owners of the Lower Gulf communities who access the NRCWS, the Lardil, Kardil, Kaidilt, Waanyi and Tagalaka peoples. The NRCWS would like to pay its respects to past, present and emerging Elders, from each of these language groups and communities..

[Audio] Congratulations and welcome to the NRCWS Family. The NRCWS workforce consists of both male and female workers, all of whom are dedicated to supporting the health, wellbeing and recovery of individuals who are struggling with issues associated with drug and/or alcohol misuse, and their families. The team is committed to ensuring that 80% of its workers are of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage. Where possible, workers from the local Traditional Owner groups are recruited to the team. Gidgee Healing has assertive policies to ensure that staff receive adequate training and support to undertake their roles and proactive succession planning occurs to ensure that local staff occupy managerial as well as entry grade positions..

[Audio] Our Staff. The Service Manager, is responsible for the overall management of the department within the Normanton Recovery Centre. Our Administrators are responsible for all respected administrative duties. The Maintenance Officer appointed is responsible for maintaining our grounds. The Wellbeing Case Workers are responsible for the individual support of clients (both NRCWS and the community), group activities and programs. Support Staff are responsible for the support for clients and the wellbeing team..

[Audio] About the Premises: The residence consists of, 3 small accommodation wings ( Buildings A, B and C) – a total of 10 shared bedrooms with each bedroom accommodating up to two people. NRCWS can cater for a maximum of 20 people in residence at the same time. a Group Training Building (Building D). Communal Kitchen & Common Room ( Building E). Administration Block, with staff offices ( Building F). Outdoor Storage Sheds ( Buildings H, I and J). The NRCWS has a Zero tolerance Policy whereby the residential setting is free of non-prescribed drugs and alcohol. This means that NRCWS has a zero tolerance policy for the possession and/or use of any alcohol, non-prescribed prescription drugs or illicit substance. NRCWS reserves the right to prohibit entry to the site and/or program of any party who does not comply with the zero tolerance rule. The NRCWS zero tolerance rule applies to all residents, their families, all NRCWS and Gidgee staff, volunteers, students, visitors and community members. Failure to adhere to this procedure will result in the offending party being asked to immediately vacate the premises and/or program. Any resident or family/personal visitor breach of the zero tolerance rule, will be assertively followed up in the context of individualized recovery planning processes. The service reserves the right to search the premises, including residents' rooms, if there is a suspicion of alcohol and/or other drugs on the premises..

[Audio] RESIDENTS DAILY ROUTINE. Residents will be up and out of bed by 7:00am Monday to Friday and no later than 9:00am on Saturday and Sunday. Please insure beds are to be made and bedrooms tidied daily. Monday to Sunday Breakfast - 6:30am to 8:00am. Lunch - 12:00 to 1:00pm. Dinner – 6:00pm to 8:00pm. ( The Kitchen will be unavailable after these hours, unless Supervised by NRCWS Staff). If required, Medication times will be before and after meals or as directed by scripts. Residents are to present to the front counter in administration and ask for a member of the wellbeing team to assist and observe. Our program roster of activities run daily between 7:00am and 3:00pm Monday to Friday. This will be facilitated/supervised by the Wellbeing Team. Consisting of, morning group walks, WORK CREW DUTIES; this is on a daily rotations roster, which will be facilitated and supervised by NRCWS Staff. You will also be required to participate in AOD Intervention Programs. 2 times daily, 11:00am to 12: 00pm and 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Shopping Days are Monday, Wednesday and Fridays after the shift handover is completed which you will be accompanied and supervised by the NRCWS Staff on shift. Communal Areas – Air conditioners, computers and the TV in the Dining room will be turned off at 10:00pm and locked at 10: 30pm by the late shift staff member on shift. Friday & Saturday extended time will be granted. Church – every Sunday (optional). Onsite bible studies facilitated by our Local Pastor – every Wednesday 16:00pm to 17:00pm, is also optional. Residents are to respect these timeframes..

[Audio] An overview of the Centre's Laundry Timetable. 7: 00am to 3:00pm Monday for the use of washing bed linen only, rooms 1 and 2. for Tuesday, rooms 3 and 4. Wednesday, rooms 4 and 6. Thursday, 7 and 8. and Friday, rooms 9 and 10. 3:00pm to 10:pm, Monday to Saturday – General Use – personal clothes/ towels etc. Saturday and Sunday, General Use, 7:00am to 10:00pm. 10:00pm to 7:00am Monday to Sunday – washing machines and dryers are not to be used after 10:00pm. Please do not use dryers unless it is raining/very wet. If you would like a copy of this timetable please talk to your appointed Case Worker, however this timetable will be located over in the laundry area on the wall..

[Audio] RESIDENT CODE OF CONDUCT. The NRCWS community is a small community, made up of both residents and staff alike. Like most communities, it is easy for tensions to occur, when you live and have contact with people on a daily basis. You have to take care to ensure that things remain happy and harmonious. These rules have been set up to ensure that this residence is a safe place for everyone and that a friendly, happy and respectful environment is maintained. The purpose of the NRCWS Code of Conduct and Ground Rules is to provide residents with a clear understanding of the standard of conduct expected whilst in residency at NRCWS. RESPECT THE RIGHTS OF SELF AND OTHERS, Treat everyone fairly – treat people as you would like to be treated yourself. CONTRIBUTE TO AN ENVIRONMENT FREE FROM HARASSMENT, BULLYING AND DISCRIMINATION, Do not bully or show bias or prejudice towards others, based on clan/ race, age, gender, religion, disability, sexual preference. BE MINDFUL OF THE HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE OF SELF AND OTHERS, Every decision we take towards ensuring our own health and safety, as well as the safety of others, is a strong step towards 'Closing the Gap'. TAKE CARE TO UPHOLD THE PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY OF OTHERS, Attending a Drug and Alcohol residential facility can be very a difficult and sensitive time for residents and their families. Do not discuss the personal matters of, or circulate information about, any other person. COMPLY WITH THE LAWS OF THE LAND, Everyone is required to abide by State and Commonwealth laws, where they apply. ACT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE GROUND RULES, Residents and staff alike can be treated more equally, and have their rights respected, when everyone follows the same ground rules. GROUND RULES. KEEP YOUR HEALTH, WELLBEING AND RECOVERY AS YOUR PRIORITY, Do not take drugs, drink alcohol or gamble whilst at NRCWS, including when you are on leave from the residence. Do not deal or supply drugs or alcohol to other residents – any illegal activity will be reported to the Police immediately. Do not smoke within the boundary of the property – NRCWS is a smoke free zone - smoke ONLY in the designated smoking area, outside the back gate. Your participation in group and one-to-one and group sessions activities, is an important part of your recovery and is compulsory. SHOW RESPECT FOR YOURSELF, Pay attention to your personal hygiene and grooming by showering, brushing teeth and wearing deodorant daily. Keep your personal living spaces clean and tidy and clean up after yourself in the communal areas. SHOW RESPECT FOR OTHERS, Be polite and respectful to other residents and staff - no violence or aggression in any form is tolerated. Show respect for other people's property - do not steal. Show respect for your environment – help to keep the communal living areas clean and tidy – you are required to do some form of daily duties to help maintain a pleasant environment for all. Take turns using shared facilities – you will be given a laundry timetable to do your washing. Help to strengthen the NRCWS community by giving us your input and ideas – your attendance at resident meetings is compulsory. Notify staff of your whereabouts – sign out every time you leave the Centre. AVOID OUTSIDE STRESSORS AND DISTRACTIONS, Hand in your mobile phone/s for 4 weeks of your admission – arrangements can be made to make/receive short personal calls, using the office phone during this time. Do not use your mobile phone during 1: 1 sessions or group times. No personal visitors are allowed before 3pm – all visitors MUST report to the office and sign in every time they visit..
