GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL MECHANISMS OF POPULAR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM.

“ Grievance Redressal” primarily covers the receipt and processing of complaints from citizens and consumers, a wider definition includes action taken on any issue raised by them to avail services more effectively..

Social Media being a wide platform makes us vulnerable to numerous threats and privacy issues. Platforms where this would affect us the most are Facebook. Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin . This is where we virtually dwell now-a-days. Providing us with an ocean for opportunities and learnings to fuel our daily lives, career, education and what not, these social media platforms can some time prove fatal for our mental state and can land us in to situations where we as users are not comfortable and this can lead to serious consequences..

Like a normal market place which consists of variety of people (social elements), our very own virtual social media platforms have variety of users expressing their views/opinions/thoughts/supports which sometime are not accepted by other set of users and can cause serious distress to an individual, among a group/community of people etc which is not healthy at all. For Example – there might be someone commenting on my relationship status on facebook with whom I am not very comfortable and is causing me s tress and anxiety. Now to resolve such situations there has to be a mechanism to prevent and report such nuisance events which can have an escalation matrix, this is what we refer as a Grievance R edressal Mechanism on Social Media.

Well, Lets dig deeper on the areas where we as virtual social users are engaged in information exchange and exposed in the public. Few Social media platforms where we find everyone including ourselves are listed below along with their description. Hope you can relate :P Facebook – Includes friend circle, posts, photos, checkins live sessions etc. Instagram – Includes photos, reels, checkins , animations etc. Twitter - Includes trends, hashtag trends, posts, pictures etc. Whatsapp – Includes your profile informations , spam messages ,status, photos etc..

Only common thing among these social media platforms is that we have shared/exchanged a lot of personal information and are exposed to a larger audience at one point in time. How does this affect us? Well, The more we are exposed to wider audience and our information is public, the more we are vulnerable to getting involved in some online arguments/quarrel/threats/community extremism etc. How do we resolve this? Keep it Simple . JUST REPORT that particular incident/user/person/group/photo/post. What are the Reporting Mechanism and steps? Every Social Media platform has below two Mechanisms to report such events : Internal Redressal Mechanism External Redressal Mechanism.
