Users of digital devices must make use of antivirus software's in order to ensure that software updates are regular in order to protect the device from viruses There are various free tools that are available such as  Sybot , Comodo Firewall etc. Should one not update their digital defenses then cybercriminals will overcome then and be able to hack personal information.

3. Protecting yourself and your data on social media platforms

Herewith are some guidelines to practice: It is essential one asks questions and analyze who would be able to access the information they put online, the type of information that would be shared, etc. Secure passwords must be used Establish the type of default privacy settings on the devices and whether those settings can be enhanced It is encouraged that one uses separate accounts or identities for different activities and pseudonyms are also encouraged to be used One must delete their passwords and browsing history when using the public internet spaces One should access sites using HTTPS protocols instead of using HTTP One must be careful about the information that they integrate from other social media spaces

4. Keep your internet communication private

The reason why one must keep their communication private is prevent any of their communication from being stolen There are various options available for one to protect their information such as Virtual Private Network (VPN), Rise Up etc. When using public WIFI, one does not have direct control over its security. Do not share sensitive information when using public hotspots as there is a low chance that the connection is secure

5. Use your cell phone as securely as possible

Mobile phones are vulnerable as well as insecure in that the information that is stored there can be accessed since phones are designed to share information about location. Guidelines to securely use cell phones: Do not leave your phone unattended Use secure passwords and screen lock to keep the phone safe Know what information is stored on the cell phone When disposing of the phone, ensure that there is no data or information still on the phone. Rather set it to factory settings before disposing of it Backup the device regularly
