QI SETTING. .
[Audio] For a brief background, Cavite is part of the Philippines' largest island, in Luzon. Found in the southern portion, Cavite belongs to Region 4A ( CALABARZON) With 6 cities and 19 municipalities….
[Audio] With a 3,678,301 population as of August 2015 to a projected increase to 4,219,183 for 2019, Cavite was noted to be the most populous province in the province based on POPCEN 2015. By 2025, the population is expected to increase to 5,244,563.
[Audio] For the health profile, Cavite has 12 public and 43 private hospitals (1 level 4, 10 level 3). There is only 1 DOH hospital in region IV B which is located in batangas ( BMC). As for the Health manpower is approximately 59 doctors, 30 dentists, 181 nurses, 295 midwives, 3327 BHWs and 894 BNSs ( BRgy nutrition scholars). Among the 12 public hospitals situated here in Cavite, we decided to choose Kawit Kalayaan Hospital, as our setting for our Transfer project….
[Audio] Kawit kalayaan Hospital is a level 1, 25 bed capacity hospital located at San Sebastian Kawit, Cavite. Presently, it has 3 RODs/ Medical Officer III, 5 deployed doctors ( 2IM, 3 Pedia), 19 nurses, 4 midwives, and 2 private practitioners ( OB-Gyne). As a level 1 primary health care facility, it provides clinical services for: - Medicine - Pediatrics - Obstetrics and Gynecology - and some elective Surgical procedures - and has Emergency/ Outpatient services More complicated cases are ideally referred to a higher facility, including COVID cases.
[Audio] Among the public hospitals in Cavite, there is one hospital that is recognized as the referral hospital. ( General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital) located at Trece Martires City, Cavite. This hospital is the first public hospital established in the province, where the Provincial Health Office is situated..

[Audio] Considering the distance from our primary hospital to the referral hospital, it would take a considerable amount of time to transfer patients. Bearing this, and all the factors that were previously mentioned, we came up with the following prioritization matrix for our QI initiative….
WHAT WE DID. .
[Audio] Our team identified the following issues that needed improvement in Kawit Kalayaan Hospital which include - Lack of important hospital facilities like equipments, diagnostic tools, medicines, and man-power, -Weak patient education and health empowerment in the out-patient department, -inadequate healthcare coverage support for patients, - absence of an effective referral system within the vicinity, and -absence of an established clinical pathway/ algorithm for admission of patients We then rated the said issues based on their importance, quick win, feasibility, and potential impact. Scores were then calculated and compared. Our team noticed that the listed issues almost had the same scores for importance and potential impact, however, quick win and feasibility put other issues behind..
