[Audio] First example is the infamous jeepney's. Jeepney's are iconic in the Philippines, serving as the primary mode of transportation in many cities and provinces. They are unique, colourful, and often decorated vehicles that operate on fixed routes and pick up passengers along the way..

They come in various sizes and configurations, offering different levels of comfort and amenities. Following buses we have trains. The Philippines has several train systems, including the Manila Light Rail Transit or LRT and Metro Rail Transit or MRT, which serve the Greater Manila Area. These trains provide a faster and more efficient way to travel within the city..

[Audio] Next is tricycles. Tricycles are small motorized vehicles with a motorcycle and sidecar configuration. They are commonly used for short-distance travel within towns and barangays or villages. Next will be the tricycles younger brother the sikad. A Philippine pedicab is called a traysikad, trisikad or simply sikad or padyak, from the Philippine word meaning to tramp or stamp one's feet. It is made by mounting a sidecar to a regular bicycle. They are used mainly to ferry passengers short distances along smaller, more residential streets, often to or from jeepney's or other public utility vehicles..

[Audio] And now for the big boys we have ferries. : In areas with waterways, such as Metro Manila and coastal regions, ferries play a crucial role in public transportation, connecting islands and providing an alternative mode of travel. Following that we have its mortal enemy the airplanes. Airplanes are transportation devices which are designed to move people and cargo from one place to another. Airplanes come in many different shapes and sizes depending on the mission of the aircraft. The airplane shown on this slide is a turbine-powered airliner which has been chosen as a representative aircraft..

[Audio] So what are the Significance of Public Transportation Public transportation in the Philippines is essential for several reasons such as Accessibility as It provides access to education, employment, healthcare, and other essential services for people who do not own private vehicles. For the Economy, as Public transportation supports economic growth by facilitating the movement of goods and services, connecting businesses and consumers, and creating employment opportunities. For Congestion Relief as Efficient public transportation systems can help alleviate traffic congestion, reducing travel times and improving overall mobility in urban areas. and Environmental Impact for Well-functioning public transportation can contribute to reducing carbon emissions and pollution by encouraging people to use shared modes of transport instead of private vehicles..

Public transportation in the Philippines faces several challenges that impact its efficiency and effectiveness first is in Traffic Congestion as Many major cities in the Philippines suffer from heavy traffic congestion, which leads to delays, longer travel times, and reduced efficiency of public transportation systems. Also Lack of Infrastructure, due to Insufficient infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, hinders the development and expansion of public transportation networks. following that we have Safety Concerns as Public transportation safety remains a significant concern, including accidents, overloading, and inadequate maintenance of vehicles. lastly we have the Informal Sector, The presence of informal or unregulated modes of transportation, such as colorum (unregistered) vehicles, can pose challenges to the formal public transportation system..

Efforts are being made to improve public transportation in the Philippines, First we have Infrastructure Development as the government has initiated various infrastructure projects, including the construction and expansion of railway systems, road networks, and intermodal terminals. Second we have Modernization Programs as Modernization programs aim to upgrade public transportation vehicles to improve safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability. Third in line would be Integration and Interconnectivity, by integrated ticketing systems and intermodal connectivity initiatives aim to enhance the seamless transfer between different modes of public transportation. Lastly we have Sustainable Transport for there is a growing focus on promoting sustainable modes of transportation, such as electric vehicles, to reduce environmental impact and enhance energy efficiency..
