Early Life. Born on 15 th June 1848 in Mulamthuruthy, Kerala, India. Youngest among his Siblings. Fondly known as Kocchaippora.

His entry into a devout life. Kocchhaippora’s ability to sing the Syriac hyms were impeccable and it came to the notice of his uncle Malpan Gheevargheese, who later trained him in the faith till his death. Kocchaippora was once infected by the deadly epidemic that took the life of millions in those times – Smallpox. But miraculously escaped higher levels of infection and death Kocchaippora was ordained as a sub-deacon and a fes more years later, he was ordained as a deacon (mshamshono)..

Priesthood. Ordained as priest at 18 and Ramban(monk priest) at 22. Ordained as Bishop on 10 th December 1876 and given charge over the Niranam Diocese. His official name changes to Gheevargheese Mar Greegorios. He was lovingly called as “Kochuthirumeni” as he was the youngest of all who were ordained as bishops..

Death and Cannonization of Parumala Thirumeni.. Mar Greegorios left for his heaveanly abode on the 2 nd of november 1902 at Parumala, Kerala after a long battle with Chronic Stomach Ulcer. He was interred at the St Peters and St Pauls Orthodox Church, Parumala, Kerala His tomb was later converted to a piligrimage centere with millions flocking to pray to the blessed Thirumeni Gheevargheese Mar Greegorios was cannonized by the Malankara Orthodox Church in the year 1947, and by the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church in the year 1987..
