The history of the breed originating from Eastern Kentucky and how it's become as well known as it is now..
Where It All Started. The Rocky Mountain Horse breed originated in the United States in the late 1800s, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky. At the time the people who owned these horses never felt the need to document them. The Rocky Mountains was mainly used as work horses around the farm because they were surefooted and had plenty of stamina to spare..
TOBE. Sam Tuttle was the most prominent breeder of Rocky Mountain Horses for the first three quarters of the twentieth century. TOBE was the primary Rocky Mountain stallion used in Sam’s breeding program. In the 1950s, many people were selling their horses, due to tractors and farm machinery being available. Even so, breeders remembered TOBE, and he was always in demand for stud service. People brought their mares to TOBE from several different states, and he was as famous in Estill County as MAN O’ WAR was in Lexington, Kentucky. The horse pictured is TOBE himself!.

My Experience With The Breed. I've had rocky mountain horses since I was 8 years old. My first Rocky Mountain was named Tea Rose that I got in 2011; who I showed till I was 10 years old and she taught me to ride. Since then I've had a ton of them go in and out my barn. I continue to show them to this day. As of right now I have 7 Rocky Mountains that I own and 5 others that I also train. These horses are everything they were talked up to be. From being sure footed and a load of stamina. They are so intelligent, beautiful, smart, with an amazing smooth gait to spare. They’ve developed to be an amazing show horse and still continue to be a great farm horse. Whether you want to pull a plow or work cattle!.
