Scene 1 (0s)

Good Morning Ma’am. Today I will be presenting about the community I have chosen which is Durban in KZN.

Scene 2 (7s)

[Audio] Durban is located on the southern east of the South Africa. It is well-known for its serene beaches and is a popular tourist destination because it successfully combines elements of Indian, European, and African cultures..

Scene 3 (24s)

[Audio] On the 11- 13 of April 2022 it experienced severe flooding and landslides caused by heavy rainfall. This traumatic experience resulted in the death of 448 people and 12,000 homes were completely destroyed and 264 schools. In addition to the loss of loved ones, it also had an impact on those who are deceased by washing away the Ntuzuma cemetery and exposing human remains..

Scene 4 (53s)

[Audio] The floods were caused by climate change. Many of these deaths were caused by mudslides and flooded rivers. One factor that worsened the situation is because low income neighborhoods are built in open, dangerous grounds which makes the places more vulnerable to suffer from the most impact. Mountains and steep areas, which are prominent features of Durban and KZN, also cause immediate stream, causing rivers to rise quickly..

Scene 5 (1m 23s)

[Audio] The government had to intervene which resulted in them setting up 4 396 temporary accommodation sites, sending out 10,000 troops to assist in the search for the missing, there's reconstruction of roads, bridges, and utilities, and there's distribution of emergency aid to those left homeless by the flood. The government has set aside 1,9 billion in relief funds for affected families. Some people are left homeless have been using schools, community halls and churches as their shelter..

Scene 6 (1m 55s)

[Audio] I can help by donating some of my unused clothes for teenagers my age who were affected by the disaster. I could also post on social media to create awareness so many people know and can help/donate if they're willing to. I could also donate blood by contacting the Red cross in Durban and help those who had severe injuries. I could also emphasize the importance of having climate change measures to make sure my community will have safety measures if we will be affected in the future..

Scene 7 (2m 27s)

[Audio] The success of this project can be guaranteed because the government is involved which means it creates more awareness for people to help. Majority of people are informed about the natural disaster and The minister of finance has also allocated R516 million for the first phase to repair infrastructure that was damaged by the floods..

Scene 8 (2m 49s)

[Audio] Thank you .. THANK YOU!.
