[Audio] Varosha beach It was built around 1970 It was built to be one of the biggest tourist attractions and was it had cerleberties like Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Raquel Welch, and Brigitte Bardot The attraction was JFK avenue and next tthat was many high rise hotels like King George Hotel, The Asterias Hotel, The Grecian Hotel, The Florida Hotel, and The Argo Hotel which was the favourite hotel of Elizabeth Taylor.

[Audio] The stroming of varosha Cyprus While tourist and celebrities were going to Varosha beach to escape their problems Cyprus had plenty of its own that led up to the fall of Varosha The Cyprus Emergency also known as the Greek Cypriot War of Independence or the Cypriot War of Independence, was a conflict fought in British Cyprus between November 1955 and March 1959. In1955 EOKA launched its campaign on 1 April 1955 with a series of bombing attacks against government offices in the island's capital Nicosia In 1960 Cyprus gained its independence from the United Kingdom, after the long anti-British campaign by the Greek Cypriot EOKA In 1965 Security Council Resolution 201 was adopted unanimously. In it, the Council extended the stationing of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus and Turkey invaded in response to a coup aiming at union with Greece on 20 July 1974 and progressed in two phases over the following month.

[Audio] Wheres Varosha Today? In 2003, travel restrictions were eased for the first time, allowing Cypriots on both sides to cross the UN Buffer Zone, commonly known as the Green Line. In January 2014 Markides started making a documentary film about the effort to turn the Famagusta region into a thriving eco-city. It kicks off on 16 January with an architectural design studio overlooking the ghost city, where local and international experts will begin planning a sustainable future. 2017 was when Varosha first started opening up again, only turks were allowed to go to the beach. The partial reopening of the once ghost town Varosha on the northern side of the island of Cyprus was done in accordance with civil rights, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus the area was fenced off to prevent any access until October 2019, when Turkish and Turkish Cypriot authorities announced its reopening.
