International travel plunged by 705 in 2020, the worst year on record for tourists resulting in 1.1 billion fewer international tourists worldwide ( over night visitor), putting the number of traveller back to levels of 30 years ago. International tourism experienced a 5% increase in 2021, 22 million more international arrivals were still 71% below the pre-pandemic year of 2019. International tourist rebounded moderately during the second half of 2021. The uplift in demand was driven by increased traveller confidence amid rapid progress on vaccination and the easing of the entry restriction in many destinations. However, the pace of recovery remained slow and uneven across world region due to varying degrees on mobility restriction, vaccination rates and travel confidence..
