BRIEF HISTORY – Evolutionary Milestones…. Established in December 1946 in the erstwhile Bombay State. During 1946 – 47, HF wireless stations were set up at 13 district Police HQs. to connect them to Pune , the then HQs. of the State Police. Wireless Stations installed with the equipments used in the 2 nd World War and procured from Disposals Directorate of the Armed Forces. VHF Low Band communication was introduced for Bombay City in 1956. In 1965-75, 10 Repeaters were set up at vantage points in various districts to enable voice communication between the State Police H.Q. at Bombay and Nagpur. This was the Trunk Auto Repeater Stations (TARS) link. During 1975-80, voice lines were hired from DoT , between State HQs to the then 6 Range HQs..Units in range were connected over VHF to these Range HQs & then ultimately to State HQ via these voice lines. At the same time, Tele-printers were utilized to transmit wireless messages between State HQs & Range HQs with the help of these hired lines..
