Aging population. As the aging population grows, the need for care homes increases. It led to a growing demand for healthcare services, particularly those living in residential care homes..

Page 3 (35s)

Shortage of manpower. The ratio of caregivers to the elderly and the lack of care manpower 1 care worker need to take care 20-60 elderly.

Page 4 (56s)

Problem. Due to shortage of manpower and aging population, care worker are unable to take care a lot of elderly, which leads to accidents, such as the escape incident in News.

Solution. Our project will use Ultra-wideband(UWB) technology for location tracking in care home . The data collect by UWB can be analyzed to identify any deviations from normal behaviour, which may indicate potential health issues or changes in well-being. Avoid and reduce the accident happen by detecting the unusual situation e.g stay in toilet for a long time, get out the range of the UWB anchors. Care workers can receive alerts or notifications if any unusual events or emergencies occur, allowing for timely intervention. Those functions can reduce the work-load of the care workers and give enough health care to the elderly..

Wireless communications technology: frequency of over 500 MHz and a carrier frequency over 2.5 GHz that is ultra-short and high-bandwidth. Positioning: Using Time of Flight(TOF) to calculate the distance between anchors and tags. Use Trilateration to calculate the coordinates of the tag. Components: Antenna, Mobile Phone.

Application. Indoor Positioning : Use UWB to locate user in the care home..

Comparison. UWB technology Using a wearable tag to locate elderly’s position to ensure their safety The signal of UWB can penetrate the obstructors in the room. Privacy concern: Only position data will be capture..

Technical Problem. Security The signal can potentially be intercepted or spoofed Integration Different frequency make some smart home device using (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) cannot connect. Synchronization Achieving synchronization can be technically challenging, especially in a dynamic environment like a smart home where users may be moving around..
