[Audio] So What makes us view clothing as beautiful or not? How does clothing become fashion? Are there qualities it must possess or a level of perceived beauty?. 

Scene 2

[Audio] Using these ideas, we can determine Beauty is not a property of clothing; it exists only in our perception. We see obvious differences in taste between young and old individuals or fashion critics and common people. 

Scene 3

Beauty is subjective but certain qualities or sentiments are objective Every mind processes beauty differently  Taste differs due to inexperience/experience, age and culture, faulty faculties, and delicacy or lack of We cannot understand or appreciate something without experiencing it General things will be agreed upon, but particulars will differ by person Few people are qualified to provide judgments regarding the beauty standards of something

[Audio] Fashion is country wide even global but is often controversial among people- why? We all sense beauty differently and choose to dress accordingly. We don't enjoy or appreciate clothing that doesn't please us to look at or wear. Fashion is separate from individual style and so one may love the design while another finds it ugly.. 

Scene 4

Personal style is an individual’s “aesthetic choices such as their clothing, accessories, hairstyle, and the way they put an outfit together” (Masterclass). How we dress is a way of expressing ourselves and consists of what we deem cool or beautiful. Someone’s style typically follows a specific aesthetic they resonate with intuitively.

Fashion is what's popular during a certain time; It’s “the prevailing styles of the present” (Masterclass). When clothing is presented globally or worn by much of the public it becomes fashion. Fashion has no specific aesthetic and changes with time. Fashion merges with style when a “trending” item matches ones’ aesthetic

[Audio] How do we get fashion trends? Most times fashion comes from big-name brands, designers, and celebrity exposure, but trends can start when many people share the view of beauty in a design.. 

Scene 5

What is stylish is ever-changing by the year, even the month. People who have influence can set off a new trend that may last or die out quickly. Name-brand designers in fashion will create items common people find ugly, but they become fashionable due to the designer or well-known figures will wear pieces and due to their status, the piece becomes trending. Hume would disprove this bandwagon effect and influence that people have on one another but appreciate designers who don’t conform to standards and simply aim to make pieces that please our senses. We need to remove the names behind items in order to accurately determine their beauty.

Scene 6

Humans aim to please and be pleased in all aspects of life including clothing. We choose our style based on our personal ideas of beauty and the public view. Something being beautiful and stylish to wear is subjective and therefore we see a wide array of styles. There is often overlap in opinions about beautiful clothing due to the facets of the item, but the beauty does not exist within the physical piece, it is perceived in our minds. Fashion changes as beauty standards change, but we see consistency in personal preferences. No one wears something they view as ugly which creates personal style, and apparel will not become fashionable without the fashion industry, celebrities, or mass media deeming it beautiful.
