As we get started with this first video of the course, we're going to answer the question, 'What is 
the NMC?' Let's delve into the world of the Nursing and Midwifery Council and what makes it 
so essential to your practice in the UK.

The NMC is a professional regulatory body with a principal aim of protecting the public. It sets 
the standards of education, training, conduct, and performance for nurses and midwives across 
the UK. Understanding these standards is pivotal to your practice. But the NMC doesn't just set 
the standards; it also oversees and approves the institutions and courses that deliver this crucial 
training.

One key role you need to be aware of is that the NMC maintains a register of all nurses,

doesn't meet the standards set by the NMC, the Council can take action, which may include 
removing professionals from the register.
