[Audio] Nemours Children's Health is one of the nation's largest children's health systems. Turner Construction is building a new Specialty Care Center and ASC for Nemours here in Malvern, Pennsylvania. The first floor will house 2 specialty clinic modules, hospital licensed sleep lab, imaging, audiology, and associated patient and staff support. The second floor will house the hospital licensed Ambulatory Surgical Center, Physical Rehabilitation and their associated patient and staff support..

[Audio] Injuries are preventable and Turner is committed to delivering work without injury or harm to anyone, everyday. To achieve this we need to create a safe, inclusive and caring environment for everyone. This orientation provides you with information about the hazards you will face on site, the controls you are expected to follow and will allow you to make good decisions about keeping you and your colleagues safe. Most importantly we are asking for your involvement, this means speaking up if you have a concern, getting involved in the daily huddles and other opportunities to raise concerns or suggest improvement and to look out for each other. You are most vulnerable in the first few days on a new site, pay attention to the information, act on it and get involved..

[Audio] Building LIFE stands for "Living Injury Free Everyday" It is about building a culture where we take time to plan and execute work safely, where we only perform a task if it is safe to do so, where we practice and coach safe behaviors, look out for each other and say something if we see something unsafe or believe there is a safer way of doing it. To build a safe culture we need your commitment and most importantly your involvement. It could safe a life or prevent a life changing injury..

[Audio] We need to work on the following Safe Environment – By creating an environment that is free from hazards people can make a mistake without getting hurt – so work is well planned, good housekeeping, good lighting, other trades in the area are not a threat, guards are in place, PPE is being worn correctly, the physical conditions are set up for success. Capability – This is about involving the right people in developing work plans, understanding what is required and knowing when to stop and get help or assistance. We have the skills, experience and knowledge to tackle the tasks in hand. Behavior – This is about encouraging the right behavior, so taking time to plan effectively, avoid cutting corners, being rushed or distracted and actively encourage people for doing the right thing. We are mentally prepared and protect each other..

[Audio] Actively caring about the health and well-being of each other is they key to taking us beyond zero injuries. Turner will provide you with a clean and professional orientation space, make sure your access to the workplace is free from hazards, well signed and properly lit, that you have clean washroom and break time facilities. This is what we expect of you Set a good example to others Demonstrate care for your colleagues Participate in daily planning of the work If you see something, say something Give positive feedback to build safer habits.

[Audio] The Law provides you with the following: Right To Know – everyone has the right to know about all safety hazards that they may be exposed to. Right to Participate – Everyone has a right to participate in safety, this can be through the JHSC or by bringing up concerns or issues. Right to Refuse – everyone has the right to refuse unsafe work. Take away points Every worker has the right to work in a healthy and safe workplace, free from violence or harassment.

[Audio] Read the duties and responsibilities of each party, explain who they work together to support each other to deliver work safely and the consequences of failing to deliver them Take away points With rights come responsibilities. Each party needs to fulfil its specific duty in order to prove it has done everything reasonable to prevent injury or ill-health. Should someone get seriously injured, you will be held accountable to these basic duties and responsibilities.

[Audio] All injuries or unsafe conditions should be reported to your supervisor and to Turner. They should be reported as soon as possible and in any case before you leave site This includes events such as near misses, damage to property, environmental spills or any kind of threatening or violent behavior. We need everyone to report incidents however minor, this is not only a legal duty but ensures we can learn from events and take action to prevent them in future..

[Audio] Turner has a zero tolerance approach to acts of defacement, graffiti and other bias motivated behavior. To enforce this, CCTV cameras have been deployed on this site. This slide and signage placed around the site advise you that you may be recorded while on this project. Turner will not tolerate any form of bias motivated behavior..

[Audio] The following basic PPE is required at all times CSA or ANSI approved Hard Hat – this should be forward facing unless it is designed to be reversible and headwear including Turbans that interfere with the harness must not be worn. CSA approved Safety Glasses or overglasses. CSA approved HI Vis, the fluorescent stripe must be a minimum of 2" wide on top of a contrasting color to the main body of the vest and form a cross on the back. CSA approved Safety Footwear at least 6" high to provide ankle protection ANSI cut level 4 gloves as a minimum, other types of protection may be required for chemical, electrical, puncture or crush hazards. If a worker wears prescription lenses they must wear safety over-glasses or wear specific safety prescription lenses. Standard prescription eyewear is not acceptable as safety eyewear. Specialized must be worn when specified by a job specific risk assessment If wearing PPE creates an additional hazard then alternative controls must be specified in writing. Workers have a duty to use and wear PPE correctly and supervisors have a duty to check their people are using and wearing it correctly too..

[Audio] We know that just 5 types of behavior are a factor in the vast majority of injuries. These 5 groups comprise 19 specific at-risk behaviors which are: Visual focus – Eyes and mind on task, watch what you are doing, be aware of what is going on around us and stop to correct things when they present a hazard. Body Position – Keep your hands and body out of harms way, avoiding obvious crush hazards or pinch points and maintaining balance and grip at all times. Material Handling – Use mechanical aids where possible and if not don't overlift anything, keep it close to the body, don't overreach, push rather than pull, use the legs and knees and avoiding bending or turning the back. Elevated Work – Avoid using ladders and if not ensure 3 point of contact. Make sure you are trained to use fall protection equipment and wear it correctly. Housekeeping – Keep your work are tidy so you don't slip or trip on anything and storing materials properly so they don't fall or present some other kind of hazard..

[Audio] Falls are consistently the most common cause of serious injury in the construction industry and falls from ladders account for a significant proportion of these. To combat this Turner has the following specific requirements Platforms and scaffolds are the preferred choice for accessing work at height. You must wear and be trained in fall protection if you are exposed to a fall of more than 6ft or when operating in a basket, a scissor lift or boom lift. Platforms must be fitted with a handrail when above 4ft and outriggers are required when the platform height to base width ratio is more than 2:1. If it is not possible to use a MEWP or Scaffold then a "Podium" ladder can be used for short duration work. This means a ladder with a standing platform at least 30" below the top hand rail. If you cannot comply with the above then you will need a ladder/platform permit to authorize alternative products. Take away points Falls from height are the industry's most common cause of serious injury MEWPS and scaffolds are the preferred means of accessing work at height Only use ladders as a last resort..

[Audio] Turner has adopted a "Nothing Hits the Ground" policy. This ensures work areas can be keep clear of trip hazards and material can be easily moved reducing the risk of ergonomic injuries as well as making production more efficient. This requires everyone to actively store materials on racks, bins, skids, or dunnage. Make sure materials are secure and prevented from rolling away. By putting materials on wheels we can save time, make work more efficient and improve safety..

[Audio] The site is open between 6am and 3pm during the week. Work outside of these hours is not permitted unless it is preplanned with Turner at least 72hrs in advance. There may be areas of the site that are relatively isolated from others such as roof-tops or basements. In these cases workers must notify their supervisor prior to working in these areas and have a means to summon help in an emergency..

[Audio] Site Orientation - All visitors must complete the orientation when they enter site. This requires you to self declare that you are fit for work and provide Tuner with a roll call in an emergency. Daily Check-in – One representative from each department or company must complete the daily check-in and indicate how many people are with you. Site Photography - Photos of the site are allowed, however, you must keep construction personnel out of any pictures..

[Audio] If you create a hazard, then you are responsible for providing protection Everyone is responsible for keeping their work area tidy Turner will provide lighting to walkways, stairwells and entry/exit points however you are responsible for providing task lighting. Turner will provide emergency fire fighting equipment however you are responsible for providing fire fighting equipment required for your activities. Mobile phones and other electronic devices that could cause a distraction are not to be used when walking or driving on site, stop and move to a safe place. Vehicle engines should not be left idling unless this is required to run essential equipment or to keep heaters or air conditioning on in extreme temperatures. Please abide by all these important rules..

[Audio] Workplace Hazardous Material Information Management System regulations. Follow the instructions on the SDS and seek training if you use these products. Lifting & Carrying - Make full use of mechanical assistance, make the load lighter or less awkward, ensure there is adequate lighting, remove trip hazards from the route. Slips & Trips – Eliminate trip hazards by keeping your work area clean and tidy and take care to clear up spills, particularly around kitchen areas and on stair cases. Tools & Equipment - You must have appropriate training to use any tools or equipment. Use it in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, inspect equipment before use every day and remove from service anything that is damaged or missing elements. Hazardous Areas – These must be marked with a robust physical barrier and signed to indicate the hazard and who to contact if it is needed to enter the space. Tape is not an acceptable physical barrier, and you should look to use rope, chain or cattle guard..
