Natural resources Natural  resources  are  resources that  exist without any actions of humankind. This includes all valued characteristics such as commercial and industrial use, aesthetic value, scientific interest and cultural value. On  Earth,  it includes  sunlight,   atmosphere,   water,   land(includes  all minerals) along with all  vegetation,  and animal  life. Natural  resources can be part of our natural  heritage  or protected in nature  reserves. Oil, coal, natural gas, metals, stone and sand are natural resources. Other natural resources are air, sunlight, soil and water. Animals, birds, fish and plants are natural resources as well.  “BE POSITIVE TO THE NATURE, SAVE THE NATURAL RESOURCES TO SAVE HUMANITY AND CULTURE”

MEGHALYA 1 . air The overall air quality in Meghalaya is "good" except for those areas in industrial  estates and where vehicular movement is at its peak.  The board which is monitoring the air quality in eight stations under the national air monitoring  programme  of the Government of India, said the overall air quality in the state is still rated as " good".Till  last year when the board had its station in a commercial hub in  Khyndailad  area of the city, the  particulatematter  level (dust and other solid emissions) of only that station used to exceed the prescribed standards. The reason is vehicular exhaust, re-suspension of traffic dust and construction activities are the major factors contributing to the pollution level at  Khyndailad  area. Though the board is running a small testing station at its office at  Lumpyngngad  .

2. SOIL The soils of the  Meghalya  are  dark brown to dark reddish-brown  in  colour , varying in depth from 50-200 cm. The texture of soils varies from  loamy to fine loamy. Meghalaya soils are rich in organic carbon, supplying potential of the soil, deficient in available phosphorous and medium to low in available potassium. The reaction of the soils varies from acidic (pH 5.0 to 6.0) to strongly acidic (pH 4.5 to 5.0).  Most of the soils occurring on higher altitudes under high rainfall belt are strongly acidic due to intense leaching.  Base saturation of these soils is less than 35 %.  These soils are not suitable for intensive crop production.  A study conducted by the  Indian council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)  Complex,  Shillong  revealed that about 40% of the soils  of the state contain micronutrients below the critical level.
