The JP2096 Ph1 mission system is a Google-like system providing integrated and accessible ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) data to those supporting military operations. This has been a long journey, the JP2096 Ph1 capture was first identified as a pipeline opportunity in 2008. Over the intervening years, as Defence sought to refine the requirements and DSTG (Defence, Science & Technology Group) built their own prototypes, Leidos maintained close engagement with stakeholders and demonstrated how our proposed solution would maintain alignment with similar US systems through our key subcontractor, Connexta . The JP2096 Ph1 system will make use of the transformed CP infrastructure to provide Defence with a search portal interfacing to ISR repositories on the DSN (Defence Switched Network). The Leidos program team has already hit the ground running in 2019, moving into customer facilities in Defence Plaza Melbourne and achieving the first payment milestone for demonstration of the unclassified software engineering environment..

After 18 months of design, development, integration and test the JP2096 Ph1 Tranche 1 Mission System reached its Initial Operating Capability (IOC) on 21 July, as declared by Air Marshall Warren McDonald, Chief of Joint Capabilities. The team of over 60 Leidos team members, plus subcontractors Nova Systems and Connexta (in the US), worked closely and collaboratively with the CIOG customer to achieve this significant milestone over two months earlier than originally planned. The importance to Defence of early access to the capability, and the importance to Leidos in meeting Defence’s request should not be understated, especially with the logistical difficulties imposed by COVID-19 in the last five months. Highlighting this milestone, CIOG Assistant Secretary Rhys Goodwin stated his delight, excitement and appreciation that our team had delivered ahead of schedule and on budget..

JP2096 Ph1 is delivering an Intelligence, Reconnaissance and Surveillance (ISR) Integration system (aka Google for Intelligence), which is now known as Wagardi. Together with a support system, also established as part of the program, Wagardi is now in service and approximately 150 intelligence analyst users have already been trained, via online sessions at four locations across Australia. Project work now continues with preparations for Final Materiel Release and Final Operating Capability in early 2021. We expect this to be complemented by an award in October to provide sustainment services through a Development Centre, and later awards for Tranche 2 and 3 enhancements which will extend to 2023..
