Who speaks Miskito Coast Creole?. Nicaraguan Creole English (or Miskito Coast Creole English) is spoken as a first language by several groups of people: the Rama, Nicaraguan Garifuna, and some Miskitos. It is spoken as a second language by other Miskitos, some Mestizos and some people who live on the coast of Honduras. Approximately 30,000 speakers are spread over a number of small Villages.

The lexicon of Nicaraguan Creole English is very similar to Belize Kriol , S an Andres-Providence Creole English (and the other Western Caribbean Creole Englishes). What distinguishes Nicaraguan Creole English from the other Western Caribbean Creole Englishes is the amount of Miskito loans in the language, e.g. briybriy ‘a shrub species’, duori ‘a dugout canoe’, ishili ‘ a lizard species’, pyampyam ‘ a bird species’, rahti ‘a crab species’, and shangkwa ‘a turtle species..

Miskito territory is extremely diverse geographically,with a large inland savanna ,  a tropical forest to the west ,coastal lowlands and the most extensive continental shelf in the Caribbean. Its varied lands include mangrove forest,estuaries,coral reefs  seagrass pastures and the greatest concentration of coastal lagoons in central America The Miskito like the other indigenouse groups and the creoles living on the Miskito coast - a population collectively called  costeños— consider themselves separate from the other inhabitants of Nicaragua and Honduras, whom they call "the Spanish." Linguistic Affiliation - Most creoles speak , as their first language , Miskito Coast Creole, by the 19900s ,all but the oldest creoles were fluent Spanish speakers as well.According to Holm (1982,3) there is evidence that Miskito creole is being influenced at the syntatic and lexical levels by central American Spanish The miskito culture has been strongly influenced by European contacts and by intermarriage with African brough to areas as slaves . In colonial times it was very similar to that of the neighbouring Sumo.
