[Audio] Good morning, I’m Rama your pharmacist in charge, how may I help you today? Good morning, I’m good, you can tell me Aya, I just came from the Dr appointment and he gave me a new prescription, a new medication and I feel a little uncomfortable overwhelmed as to how I should take it.

[Audio] I can help you with it okay, but first I need to collect some information about you, what’s your DOB and your address? My date of birth is May 7th 2002 and my address is Barsha street in Dubai.

[Audio] Okay before we get started what medication allergies do you have? Well, when I diagnosed with type 2 diabetes the Dr prescribed for me glimepiride, and it made me very sick to my lung, I can’t breath and it caused to me rash… so yeah I didn’t take it well.

[Audio] Okay I’ll note that as a drug that you have a poor reaction to.

[Audio] What did the Dr tell you this medication was for? He told me it was for my diabetes, and he prescribed for me also Metformin with glimepiride, I had been taking my blood glucose regularly at home and it was high, and he even after he had me lowered sugar and he had me start walking and exercising, so he felt I should be taking this medication.

[Audio] That’s correct, these drugs are used to decrease blood glucose, Metformin 1000mg tablet and glimepiride 4mg tablet….

[Audio] Ummm, so we have to do some modification in your drug therapy because you have allergy to glimepiride, so what you prefer? … Honestly, I heard that all type 2 diabetes drugs are expensive and they have different efficacy, so maybe I can’t buy them, so if you have another option just tell me.

[Audio] Okay, we have a similar medication to glimepiride, which is repaglinide and this medication have similar efficacy and it’s cheaper than the other medication as it costs 35 DHS and you will take it as 0.5 mg tablet , as it has less side effects than the other type, so we have to keep monitoring when you will take it… And when I can eat it, during the meals or before, and what about the side effects are there serious? And if I miss the dose what should I do?.

[Audio] Well, this medication is taken with each meal and take it before meal by 30 min, and if the meal skipped you have to be skipped also the medication, also this medication is more beneficial than the previous one as it cause less Weight gain and less hypoglycemic effect, as for the Side effects it may cause swelling in your lip or face, also cold symptoms like cough, and because it has great effect with meteor in to reduce the immediate hyperglycemia so that why I prefer it Oh great thank you for your honesty and I’ll buy it.

[Audio] Amazing, and now tell How did the doctor tell you to take this medication Umm, I don’t really recall him saying anything about that.

[Audio] That’s okay, we’ll go over it today, so look this drug is called metformin 1000mg and it’s tablet, it’s to be taken one tablet by mouth once daily, you should take it with meals, and make sure you take it at the same time every day okay, there’s 30 tablets and , and this is a long term medication that you and your Dr will discuss together how long remain on it.

[Audio] And in case if you missed the dose of metformin and repaglinide, try to take it as soon as possible when you remember, and if it happens to be close to the next time the dose is to be taken then skip the missed dose and go back on your normal schedule, and try to not take two doses at same time okay, and store them in a cool dry place away from children.
