Solutions To Problems Faced By Humans In Space. Participant : Sana Sajjad Institution : KRL Model College For Girls ,Kahuta.
PROBLEMS FACED IN SPACE. FIVE MAJOR PROBLEMS FACED IN SPACE ARE : RADIATIONS LACK OF GRAVITY LACK OF SUSTAINABLE FOOD TIME VARIANCE LACK OF SUSTAINABLE OXYGEN SOURCE.
PROBLEM #1 : SPACE RADIATIONS. Radiation is the first hurdle that humans face when they are planning to live in space . Space radiation is made up of three kinds of radiations: Particles trapped in the Earth’s magnetic field. Particles shot into space. Galactic cosmic rays . These radiations are very hazardous for human beings as they can increase the chance of cancer and sterility ..
SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEM #1. Light weight magnetic shields should be used to protect an astronaut from deadly radiations. Special space suit should be designed . Polythene should be used for shielding from radiations. Astronauts should cover their habitat with a thick layer of lunar rock..
PROBLEM #2 :LACK OF GRAVITY. The second challenge faced by human in space is lack of gravity . Gravity is the force of attraction that attracts every thing towards it self . In space this force is lacking that’s why everything is in state of free fall. Also the explorers will experience weightlessness due to lack of gravity..
SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEM #2. To resolve gravity issue in space there are two suggestions : By providing artificial gravity to astronauts . This can be done by using centrifugal force where shapes of spacecrafts should be in form of hollow ring to accommodate mass on its outer edges . Another method to create artificial gravity is by utilizing technology called O’NEIL CYLINDER. This consists of pair of massive cylinders that rotate in opposite direction, allowing them to be permanently directed towards the sun ,replicating gravity..
PROBLEM #3: LACK OF SUSTAINABLE FOOD. The third challenge faced by human mission in space is lack of sustainable food. Sustainable food means the food that is healthy for our bodies and environment . There is lack of sustainable food in space . As we know that plants are healthy but w e cannot grow plants in space because there is no oxygen in space and plants require oxygen to grow..
SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEM #3. In space, the conditions required for plants to grow (such as water, light, nutrients and suitable temperature) are difficult to meet but not impossible. Space agriculture could be a necessary way to sustain astronauts for a long period of time. In space, astronauts have to use human waste to fertilise the crops they eat , including lettuce. Development of space agriculture technology may be the way to prepare us to survive in a two degrees warmer world and become a multiplanetary species..
PROBLEM #4: TIME VARIANCE. The fourth challenge faced by humans in space is the effect of time variance. Time variation is the difference between the standard hours and actual hours. As there is no gravity in space so time pass very fastly in space but on earth time pass steadily because of gravity as every object in space exerts a gravitational pull on every other object ..
SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEM #4. By introducing gravity in space we can overcome the problem of time variance in space, as due to presence of gravity every object in space will exert a gravitational pull on every other object and time will pass steadily..
PROBLEM #5: lack of SUSTAINABLE OXYGEN SOURCE. The fifth challenge faced by any human mission in space is the lack of sustainable oxygen source . Sustainability of oxygen is one of the most important issue that human face in space as there is no air or oxygen in space.
SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEM #5. We can solve this problem : By carrying large and light weight oxygen cylinders. By using the method of ELECTROLYSIS OF WATER as it is the primary method by which oxygen is made on I SS..
