Scene 1 (0s)

[Virtual Presenter] We will now be presenting on the life cycle of a butterfly. Today we will be delving into the incredible journey these magnificent creatures undergo from laying their eggs to emerging as fully-formed butterflies. We hope you find this presentation both informative and enjoyable and that you gain a deeper appreciation for these fascinating insects..

Scene 3 (30s)

[Audio] Slide 3 will discuss the first stage of a butterfly's life: the egg. A butterfly lays eggs on the leaves of a plant usually on the underside of the leaves. These eggs are very small just a few millimeters in diameter and are round in shape. They are usually white or yellow in color and they have a hard protective shell that helps to keep them safe from predators. Once the egg hatches a small soft-bodied caterpillar emerges. This caterpillar will then go through a series of stages eventually becoming a butterfly..

Scene 5 (1m 7s)

[Audio] We will now examine the stages of a butterfly's life cycle. Starting with the egg stage the female butterfly places her eggs on the leaves of a plant. Upon hatching larvae or caterpillars emerge. The caterpillars will then go through metamorphosis becoming chrysalises and emerging as butterflies. We will now examine the factors that impact the survival of these eggs..

Scene 6 (1m 30s)

[Audio] We will now discuss the fascinating life cycle of butterflies. A butterfly's life cycle starts with a tiny caterpillar-like creature called a larva. Larvae are born on the leaves of a plant and start to eat immediately. They feed on the leaves of the plant growing larger and stronger with each passing day. As the larva grows it also sheds its skin a process known as molting. This allows the larva to continue growing and eventually transform into a pupa. Pupae are a fascinating stage in a butterfly's life. During this time the pupa undergoes a process of metamorphosis where it transforms into a beautiful butterfly. This process can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks depending on the species of butterfly. When the pupa is ready it will emerge from its chrysalis and transform into a fully-formed butterfly. The butterfly will then take to the skies using its delicate wings to fly and explore the world around it. Overall the life of a butterfly is a fascinating journey of growth and transformation. From a tiny larva to a beautiful butterfly every stage of a butterfly's life is filled with wonder and magic..

Scene 7 (2m 45s)

[Audio] Undergoing complete metamorphosis in the adult stage the butterfly transforms from a caterpillar to a fully developed butterfly. It emerges with wings and learns to fly. As the butterfly ages it loses the ability to reproduce and eventually dies. It lays eggs before death to start the life cycle anew..

Scene 8 (3m 9s)

[Audio] During the pupa stage of a butterfly's life cycle the butterfly will form a protective layer around itself called the pupa. This layer is made up of chorion a type of hard-shelled material that provides protection for the butterfly as it undergoes metamorphosis inside. The pupa stage is a critical period in a butterfly's life cycle during which the butterfly will undergo a complete transformation. The caterpillar will shed its old skin and emerge as a new creature with a completely different set of features and abilities. In the next slide we will discuss the other stages of a butterfly's life cycle and how they all work together to create the amazing life of a butterfly..

Scene 9 (3m 49s)

[Audio] During the pupa or chrysalis stage we undergo a transformation. We shed our old skin and grow a new one which is harder and more durable. This new skin is also known as the chrysalis. We spend several weeks in this stage restoring our energy and preparing for the next stage of our life cycle..

Scene 10 (4m 9s)

[Audio] We can see that the butterfly goes through different stages in its life cycle. The butterfly starts with the egg which is laid on a leaf. After a few days the egg hatches and the caterpillar emerges. The caterpillar eats and grows for weeks before entering the chrysalis stage. During this time the caterpillar undergoes a complete metamorphosis and emerges as a beautiful butterfly..

[Audio] We enjoyed learning about the many stages of a butterfly's life and the incredible transformation they undergo..
