Scene 2 (21s)

[Aims and objectives]. Problem The use of synthetic fibre composites in industry and its effects on the environment . Aim The aim of this project is to research the effects of employing natural fibre hybrids composite, for industry and environment in comparison to all other fibre hybrid composite which are currently being used in industry. Benefits Sustainability Low cost Biodegradable Low carbon footprint.

Objectives Creating a schedule of task with a Gantt chart. Investigating manufacturing methods and techniques used for the production of natural fibre reinforced hybrid composites. Compare and analyse natural fibre composite features in comparison unnatural(synthetic)fibre composites using Granta and other means of research. Test and analyses values of properties for the comparison being natural fibre composites and synthetic fibre composites..

Scene 4 (3m 8s)

Rationale. My research will be purposed to finding a way to eliminate the use of synthetic fiber composite in industry and employ natural fiber composites. Synthetic fiber materials are known to be non biodegradable , strain resistant , long lasting and are moisture resistant. These are just a few properties which differentiate natural fiber composites from synthetic fiber composites. The properties of synthetic fiber composites attract market and revenue from various industries such as aerospace, construction, automotive , electronics and welding. The comparison between natural and synthetic composites is what my research is also based on. This is because synthetic fiber composites have better properties when compared to natural fiber composites however, natural fiber composites show better performance in different application . The right matrix of and mixture natural fiber materials could prove to have better properties that synthetic material composites..

[Marketing ]. Market Research From my research it has been identified that the employing of natural fibre composite, in the industry has gradually increased. This figure displays the market revenue of these natural fibre composites which have been obtained since the year of 2013. The reason for the gradual growth includes the fact that these materials are environmentally friendly, they are easily accessible and above all they are bio degradable. “ Natural fibre composites (NFC) are 25.0% to 30.0% stronger than glass fibres of the same weight ”. Properties range from strength, durability to specific stiffness. The continuous demand for lightweight products from the automotive and mechanical industry is causing the revenue obtained from the natural materials to increase. ” It contributes to weight reduction by 30.0% and cost reduction by 20.0% during manufacturing of a vehicle. This segment accounted for the revenue share of over 30.0% in 2015.”.

Marketing. The figure displays the industries which are currently the most dominant in the use of natural fiber composites . As shown the construction industry plays a major role in the use of natural fiber. This is because, constructors will prefer to use materials which have the best properties such as high strength, light weight, high durability, corrosion resistance and fire resistant. All of these properties can be found in natural fibers and are environmentally friendly when employed. In regards to my final project I believe that it is almost impossible to market my research as, research can only be published and marketed upon completion of the project. However in the marking criteria of the interim presentation, there is a section dedicated to marketing. I am currently just researching in depth and using Granta to compare the different properties of natural and synthetic fiber composites. The information provided in the previous slides provides an insight of the market for natural fiber composites and the industries which partake in these markets..
