[Audio] Welcome to the Goodwill Career Center! You are here today because you were referred by Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency ( GVRA) for general services. During this presentation, you will learn the history of Goodwill, information about Workforce Development and the Career Services Department, Helms Career Education and College, along with Goodwill Staffing Service. In addition to your responsibilities as a GVRA participant participating in Goodwill's training and employment programs. After the presentation, you will meet with your Career Development Specialist to complete your intake and enrollment. Let us begin. Slide 1 of 19.

[Audio] Goodwill was founded in 1902 by Rev. Edgar J. Helms in Boston, Massachusetts. Rev. Helms collected used household goods and clothing in wealthier areas of the city then trained and hired unemployed people to repair the used goods. The goods were then resold, and the proceeds paid the workers' wages and were invested back into the development of job training programs. This system worked, and the Goodwill philosophy was born "A Hand Up, Not a Handout". Slide 3 of 19.

[Audio] Our Locations consist of 35 county areas, 7 Retail Stores including: 1 Last Chance! Store, 13 Donation Centers, 10 Job Connections, an Automotive Center, as well as 1 Bakehouse, 4 Edgar's Hospitality Group Establishments, 2 Conference Centers, 3 Helms College Campuses. [Audio] Most people know Goodwill for donations and retail stores BUT! did you know more than 86 cents of every dollar in Goodwill revenue funds job training & placement programs. Meaning every dollar, a customer spends with Goodwill 86 cent of that dollar is put back into trainings programs and employment opportunities. Slide 6 of 19.

[Audio] Here is how the process works. You would donate things to Goodwill like clothes, furniture, cars, or dollars! Your donations are processed for resale by Goodwill trainees, many of whom have disabilities. After donations have been processed, they sold in a Goodwill upscale Retail Store. The revenue generated through Goodwill stores supports our job training and placement programs. Goodwill trainees experience the pride and dignity of receiving a paycheck! With your donations, Goodwill helps communities grow and prosper. Slide 7 of 19.

[Audio] Lets' review the process: Through a GVRA referral form process, Goodwill provides intensive employment services to people with identifiable barriers to employment. For Individuals who have challenges to obtaining employment, Goodwill and GVRA have programs in place to provide the added support needed to be successful. Goodwill helps empower individuals through work preparation, as well as industry and vocational skills training for in-demand careers. Goodwill and GVRA provides access to needed resources that support you with assessing, preparing goal setting and planning for training and work opportunities. Slide 8 of 19.

[Audio] Goodwill Career Centers throughout Middle Georgia and the CSRA offers a variety of education, training, and employment opportunities through ENGAGEMENT, EMPOWERMENT, and EMPLOYMENT for people who want to work and for people who want to advance their careers. Services offered but are not limited to: 1. Community resources 2. Resume assistance 3. Interviewing skills 4. Online job search 5. Computer and soft skills software 6. [Audio] Workforce Development is an Interconnected Set of Solutions to Overcome Barriers and Challenges to Employment. It prepares individuals with Needed Skills, Emphasizes the Value of Workplace Learning and FOCUS on HIGH DEMAND CAREERS from the outset. The GOAL is to PLACE PARTICIPANTS in JOBS where there are Career Development Opportunities. Slide 10 of 19.

[Audio] We also have opportunities for you to pursue an education with us! Through Helms College or Helms Career Education. Helms College is a private independent postsecondary career school sponsored by Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia Inc. and licensed by the Georgia Non-public Post-Secondary Education Commission, The college is an institution of higher education that provides a unique approach to experiential learning and career education. Named in honor of Reverend Edgar Helms, Helms College creates opportunities for students to discover their strengths and build upon their knowledge, skills, and attitudes through extensive integrative and experiential learning. AND Helms Career Education ( HCE) is an arm of Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia, Inc. that provides educational and training programs to those seeking "a hand-up" in the career world. Helms Career Education works with students seeking additional learning opportunities as well as individuals with employment barriers that are physical, cognitive or economic/environmental in nature. HCE gives you the skills and the resources to start your career! Slide 12 of 19.
