2021 natural disasters. North American heat wave in June 2021caused 1037 deaths: 808 in Western Canada and 229 in the northwestern US In the Atlantic in 2021, there were 21 named storms , 7 hurricanes and four major hurricanes. The four biggest US storms cost a combined $67 billion in insured losses, and once all the claims settle the costs will likely exceed 1 billion. Epic rainfall in China extending to Vietnam in July 2021 due to two landfalling typhoons - Cempaka and In-fa. 25.31 inches fell in 24 hours. Europe’s deadliest flood in over 30yrs hit western Germany and eastern Belgium killing 240 people and caused $43 billion in damage, which is the costliest weather disaster in European history. There were 1376 tornadoes (1313 confirmed) in the US in 2021, and 1075 in 2020. These tornadoes killed over 100 people including 90 in the month of December alone. There were 8835 California wildfires recorded in 2021, burning over 2,000,000 acres across the state, with 3629 buildings destroyed. Globally, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Greece and Turkey have rising brushfire and wildfire incidence as well..

Nursing. A healthcare profession focused on the care of individuals, families and communities helping them to attain, maintain, and recover optimal health and quality of life. One of the largest and most trusted group of health care professionals Nurses take on a variety of different roles including education, assessing situations and support, research and providing care. In times of disaster, nurses are often needed at the initial rescue as well in the immediate aftermath, administering first aid to those injured. They may also be needed in hospitals, shelters and clinics to provide ongoing care. Nurses also play a vital role in restoring normalcy, not just to individuals but to the entire community..

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PLAN Section 1: General Guidelines.

Ready, set, go…. Be aware of your environmental risks. Don't wait until the last minute to prepare, know your local evacuation routes and listen to the directions of local officials. Establish a family evacuation plan and a designated meeting place. Identify a plan for children and disabled or elderly family members. Remember your elderly neighbors. Consider having a “go bag” so that if you do need to evacuate quickly, you'll have important documents, cash and necessary items ready to go. Keep a full tank of gas in your car. Have bottled water and non-perishable foods (granola bars, raisins, can tuna , peanut butter) in case of a loss of power and refrigeration. Charge electronic equipment and consider having a backup battery. Pack charging cords. Have a flashlight with fresh and extra batteries. Don't forget about your family pet. Bring a bowl, leash, food and vaccination records. Stay calm!.
