LGBTQ Population & Christianity. By: Myat May.
Intro. There are approximately 1,9994,000 teenagers in US Acronym for “ lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer” The numbers of teenagers coming out openly has increased Gay affirmative psychology was founded in the 1970s and growing rapidly It is widely known that LGBTQ individuals experience significant amount of stigma and discrimination The primary purpose is to break down homosexuality through Christianity By understanding psychology, religious institutions will be able to provide tailored support.
Christian Psychology View. Christian psychology is a distinct branch that can be applied to many research areas The Bible is at the core of this psychology view Many young churchgoers are part of the LGBTQ communtiy They deserve to feel safe and supported as fellow Christians By understanding their needs, churches can build better support systems It will also help LGBTQ members assimilate better to the community.
Homosexuality & Christianity. Christian partnership/marriage is to live through God’s love Many LGBTQ couples live through this definition Zero sum beliefs are prevalent in churches today The Bible encourages acceptance of all brothers and sisters Biology speaks louder than personal preference in religious institutions.
Research Area. The goal is to get more young people from the LGBTQ community into the church Inquire about available services offered by churches in the US Interview LGBTQ youth between ages 13-17 from diverse backgrounds Ask them how frequently they go to church annually Ask open-ended questions on the types of services they would like to see in religious institutions.
Benefits of Viewpoint. It is possible to open people’s hearts to the LGBTQ youth in the church Christianity is about love and bring people together through Christ This is a possible feat if we can get more churches to accommodate LGBTQ members The goal is not conversion of these youths, but find ways to accept them for who they are All things are possible through God.
Conclusion. Through the Christianity viewpoint we can get more LGBTQ youths into the church We can also find programs to open dialogue between church members and these youths Goal of my research is to find programs to entice young people who identify as anything other than heterosexual to attend church services Christianity is about love and acceptance.
