[Audio] "…every utterance which [a judge] makes in public, except in the course of the actual performance of his judicial duties, must necessarily bring him within the scope of criticism. It would moreover, be inappropriate for the Judiciary to be associated with any series of talks or anything which could be fairly interpreted as entertainment…".

[Audio] Judicial Independence  fundamental concept came into realization through the Act of Settlement in 1701  as one of the concepts of the judiciary it allows judes to perform their duties independent of other branches of the government or other parties.  The importance of it is by enabling judges to make their decisions through the rule of law without external influences..

[Audio]  " Advocates or judges often have something to say which is of general importance and, after all, they are in my view an important section of the community, and why they should be mute when everybody else can say what they like I could not see. On the other hand, I did think that if a person was sufficiently fit to be a judge of the bench in England and Wales he or she should have sufficient judgment to know when they should speak and when they should be silent in matters with the media, so I do not repent of that".

[Audio] With the coming of this new age, where the media plays a major role in the life of almost every individual and with the increase of the desire from the public to be educated on important matters, the legal side of our systems is no exception which leads to the icrease of broadcasting of legal proceedings. As Lord Burnett has stated; "Judicial independence is strong when the public understands its importance and supports it." [ Allbon, Emily/Kaur-Dua, Sanmeet. English Legal System enhanced eBook].
