There are approximately 1.8 million corneal blind in India out of which 1 million are children Corneal blindness is a leading cause of Preventable blindness SO IF WE CAN DO OUR BIT TO END THIS ,THEN WHY NOT???.

WHAT IS CORNEA AND CORNEAL BLINDNESS?. Cornea is a clear transparent tissue covering the front of the eye Corneal blindness usually occurs as a result of infections , malnutrition, chemical burns etc…..

WHAT IS EYE DONATION??. Eyes are donated within 4 to 6 hours of death. Eyes cannot be removed from a living donor Whole eye is not transplanted ,only cornea is transplanted or grafted Persons who have lost their sight due to damage to cornea can regain vision through a procedure called corneal grafting Eyes cannot be bought or sold.

WHO CAN DONATE EYES ?. Person himself can make a pledge to donate his eyes Families of the departed can donate eyes even if it is not pledged before Pledge to eye donation can be done at the nearest eye bank usually located at a medical college or hospital in your area.

Anyone can donate irrespective of age, sex, blood group or religion.

EYE DONATION –STEPS TO FOLLOW. Call the nearest eye bank Switch off fans OFF room ,keep ACs ON if possible Eyes should be kept closed by placing a wet cloth over the donors eyes Raise the head of donor with a pillow.

WHO CANNOT DONATE EYES ??. PEOPLE WITH: -AIDS -HEPATITIS -ENCEPHALITIS -RABIES -SEPTICEMIA -RETINOBLASTOMA -LEUKEMIA -LYMPHOMA -END STAGE CANCER.

MYTHS ABOUT EYE DONATION. RELIGION FORBIDS YOU FROM EYE DONATION YOU WILL BE BLIND IN NEXT BIRTH YOUR FACE OR BODY WILL BE DISFIGURED YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE GOD.
