Macro Compatibility. This macro is compatible with SolidWorks 2022 and earlier versions. However, it won't be compatible with SolidWorks 2023 and later versions. SolidWorks is obsoleting some of the code used in this macro, and they will replace it with newer code. As our organization transitions to newer versions of SolidWorks, we will upgrade the macro with the new code to ensure it works without errors..
Macro Functionality. Checks the current display mode of the view and ensures it is set to "Hidden Line". Initializes the SOLIDWORKS application and the active document, ensuring that a drawing document is open. Collects all views present on the current sheet for processing. Invokes the ChangeViewDisplayStyle subroutine to configure the view's display settings. Sets the overall drafting standard to ANSI. Configures linear dimension precision to three decimal places. Adjusts edge quality settings by enabling wireframe and shaded edge views..
Why we created this macro. In the past, we used to manually adjust the overall drafting standard and view properties, which was a very time-consuming process. Even when attempting to modify view settings, we had concerns about potentially overlooking crucial settings. This led us to repeatedly check to ensure that no essential views or settings were missed. In the upcoming slide, we will demonstrate just how time-consuming it can be to change all these settings manually..
Video Demonstration. Teacher.
In the video demonstration, we observed that the manual method took approximately 1 minute and 5 seconds, which is a significant amount of time. Often, in a rush, we tend to forget to adjust some settings as well. Furthermore, if the initially captured view doesn't meet our requirements, we need to take another view, which necessitates changing the settings for that view as well. When we calculate this data, it adds up to wasting approximately 3-4 minutes per drawing. If we consider that we create around 10-20 drawings each day, the time spent adjusting settings for 10-20 drawings can accumulate to 35 minutes to 1 and half hour. This means we essentially dedicate an hour and half every day solely to adjusting view settings. In the upcoming slide, we will demonstrate how much time it takes to adjust the settings using our macro..
Video Demonstration. Teacher.
As demonstrated in the video, using the macro allowed us to make all the changes in just 7 seconds. This eventually results in significant time and effort savings and also we no longer need to worry about whether we've adjusted the settings correctly. If you ever feel the need to make changes again, you can simply press the button, and all the adjustments will be completed in just 7 seconds. We will explore further enhancements in the future if we find the need for the macro to perform additional actions..
