Dividend is part of the profit of a company distributed to its shareholder.  It is recommended by its board of directors. It is approved by share holders. It is paid out of current profits or the past earnings kept as reserve It is a return on share capital subscribed for.  It is paid to its shareholders by the company. Payment of dividend is not obligatory for the companies

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ANNUAL DIVIDEND AND INTERIM DIVIDEND

Points  of Distinction Annual Dividend  Interim Dividend Meaning It is the dividend paid at the end of the  financial year. It is the dividend paid at the end of first  half/second quarter of the financial year Time of declaration It is declared at the Annual General Meeting. It is declared in between two annual General Meeting or completion of first half of the financial year. Who can declare It  is declared by the Board of Directors in the Annual General Meeting after getting an approval from the members It is  declared by the Board of Directors by passing resolution at Board Meeting  Rate of dividend It is generally higher than Interim Dividend The rate of Interim dividend is normally low than annual Dividend

Dividend is paid out of profits of the company for that financial year.  Dividend is also paid out of the profits of the company for any previous  financial year after providing depreciation.  Dividend is paid, out of the money provided by the central or state government.
