Deworming Campaign Overview. Deworming Campaign Approach Objective: Deworm all children (boys and girls) aged 1-19 years (enrolled and non-enrolled) at School and AWC for improved child health, nutritional status, access to education and quality of life. Stakeholders: Department of Health and Family Welfare; Directorate of Education ; Department of Women and Child Development ; 3 MCDs(North ,South and East)( Health and Education) ,NDMC(Health and Education) and Cantonment board schools..
Types of Worms. How do they spread?. worm infections result from poor sanitation and hygiene conditions are transmitted through contact with or ingestion of infected soil.
Symptoms of Worm Infestation. Most children with mild worm infestation do not show symptoms, however these children will develop nutritional deficiency in long run. The greater the amount of worms in an individual (intensity), the more symptoms the infected individual will have Severe infections can cause a range of symptoms including diarrhoea, abdominal pain, weakness and loss of appetite.
Impact of Worms on Health & Nutrition. Worm infections impair the nutritional status of the people they infect in multiple ways: Worms feed on host tissues, including blood, which leads to anemia The nutritional impairment has significant impact on growth and physical development Worms consume nutrients meant for the human body and cause blood loss, poor nutrition and stunt growth Roundworm may compete for vitamin A and other nutrients in the intestine.
Impact of Worms on Children’s education and long term productivity.
How to Prevent Worm Infection ?. Washing hands, particularly before eating and after using toilets Using sanitary latrines Wearing slippers / shoes Drinking safe and clean water Eating properly cooked food Washing vegetables, fruits in safe and clean water Keeping nails short and clean.

Benefits of Deworming. Decreases anemia and improves nutrition Children grow faster and stays healthier Increases resistance to other infections Supports more frequent school attendance Improves children’s ability to learn better and be more active in school Increase hours worked and wages earned in the long-run in adulthood Important spillover effects. Other community members who do not receive treatment benefit, as there are fewer worms in the environment.
Drug Administration. Nodal teacher will handover the drugs to the class teachers Class teachers will prepare a list of enrolled children in separate register. Recording process will be as follows: At the end, teacher will count the number of single ticks and double ticks in register, separately for both DD and MUD and will report to the nodal teacher/Principal Ask students to bring their water bottle. Keep drinking water and glasses available at the time of drug administration. Keep ORS readily available at the time of drug administration..
