“68.7% of students were less satisfied with online learning and 41.6% would not recommend the online learning experience to others” (Elshami et al., 2021).

Dehumanization of Students Through Online Learning

“Instructor recorded videos of announcements, compared to text emails, increased students’ sense of closeness with their instructors” which increases student engagement in online courses (Wong et al., 2021, p. 4).

“45% of students lacked motivation due to the missed interpersonal contacts and cooperation with their teachers and peers” (Tratnick et al., 2019, p.6).

Lack of Accountability and student-instructor Interactions Due to Course Design

67% of students find online discussions effective for accountability; these students prefer online discussions over face-to-face discussions (Jacobi, 2017, p. 12).

“Most students view courses with limited interaction make them feel disconnected from their instructors and peers compared with courses and programs that are more interactive” (Eom and Ashill, 2016).

Conclusion. COMC-102 Online Course lacks social presence resulting in miscommunication.
