Scene 1 (0s)

[Audio] The Chinese Red Pine Pinus tabuliformis. Chinese Red Pine.

Scene 2 (12s)

[Audio] Pinus tabuliformis is a medium-sized coniferous evergreen tree growing to 20 to 30 meters or ( 66 to 98 feet) tall, with a flat-topped crown when mature. The growth rate is fast when young, but slows with age. The gray-brown bark fissures at an early age compared to other trees. The broadly spreading shape is very pronounced, in part due to the long horizontal branching pattern. The immature cones are green, ripening brown about 20 months after pollination, broad ovoid, and are 4 to 6 centimeters or ( 1 to 2 inches) long, with broad scales. Chinese red pine can be found in northern China from Liaoning west to Inner Mongolia and Gansu, and south to Shandong, Henan and Shaanxi, as well as northern Korea. The name tabuliformis (table-shaped), refers to the species' flat-topped crown. It is closely related to Henry's pine ( Pinus henryi) and Sikang pine ( Pinus densata).

Scene 3 (1m 17s)

[Audio] How to grow pinus tabuliformis The cones mature in fall, so its best to collect the cones at that time period. Buying seeds online is also a good option if you can't find any Chinese red pine trees in person. After removal of seeds from collected cones, soak the seeds in water for 24 hours. The seeds have no dormancy, and will germinate in 1 to 2 weeks after sowing if temperatures are warm enough. Take good care of the seedlings, as conifer seedlings are very vulnerable in their first year..
