Page 4 (59s)

[Audio] In this presentation we will explore the concept of motivation and its role in learning. We will examine two main types of motivation: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation is driven by personal desires and passions and comes from within oneself. When intrinsically motivated individuals are driven by their own interests and goals and are more likely to put in effort and persevere in their pursuits. Extrinsic motivation on the other hand comes from external factors such as rewards recognition and feedback. When extrinsically motivated individuals are driven by external factors and are more likely to put in effort and persevere in their pursuits to receive these rewards. Overall motivation is a powerful force that can drive thoughts and actions and it is essential to success in learning and achieving goals..

[Audio] In this presentation we will discuss intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in learning. Intrinsic motivation refers to the drive to engage in an activity for its own sake or for the enjoyment and satisfaction it brings. This type of motivation is often associated with hobbies or interests and can be a powerful driver of learning. Extrinsic motivation on the other hand refers to the drive to engage in an activity in order to receive a reward or avoid a punishment. This type of motivation can be external such as grades or financial incentives or internal such as the desire to please others. It is important to note that both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation can have a positive impact on learning but they can also have different effects. Intrinsic motivation can lead to a deeper and more lasting understanding of the material while extrinsic motivation may be more focused on achieving a specific goal. As educators it is important to consider the different motivations of our students and to create an environment that supports both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. This can include providing opportunities for students to pursue their interests as well as providing clear goals and rewards for their efforts..

[Audio] We focus on Daniel Pink's Drive Theory in Chapter Eight of our presentation on motivation and learning. This theory emphasizes the importance of autonomy mastery and purpose in modern motivation. These elements align well with the needs of adult learners. Autonomy means giving learners control and freedom over their work allowing them to make their own decisions and take ownership of their learning process. Mastery involves persistence and constant improvement through learning new skills and concepts. Learners should be encouraged to set goals and celebrate their progress. Purpose refers to the meaningfulness and impact of engaging in learning that matters. Learners should connect their learning to real-world problems and see how it can make a difference in the world. By incorporating these elements into their learning experiences adult learners can be motivated to engage more deeply and achieve their full potential..

[Audio] When learning is most likely to occur is rather than learning itself. The diagram below shows the balance between power and load. As we can see an individual's ability to deal with the load of life is directly related to their power. When power exceeds the load the individual can thrive and excel. When power is too low to deal with the load the individual may feel overwhelmed and stressed. In conclusion McClusky's Theory of Margin teaches us that finding the right balance between power and load is essential for maintaining motivation and achieving our goals..

[Audio] Chapter Eight: Motivation and Learning. Today we will explore online learning strategies that can increase engagement and provide diverse means of representation to cater to different learning styles. One such strategy is mind mapping. Mind mapping is a visual thinking tool that helps individuals organize information generate ideas and see relationships between concepts. This technique involves creating a diagram that starts with a central idea and branches out into related subtopics with each branch representing a key point or piece of information. Mind maps are created using keywords images symbols and colors to make the information more engaging and easier to remember. By using mind mapping students can not only visualize the information but also generate new ideas and see the relationships between concepts. [Audio] Additional resources will be provided to improve your learning experience. Motivation is critical in the learning process and everyone has their unique approach to being motivated. To better comprehend this idea we will introduce you to three models: the A-R-C-S Model Daniel’s Pink Model and the Barriers to Adult Learning. The A-R-C-S Model suggests that motivation stems from four key aspects: autonomy relatedness competence and satisfaction. Daniel’s Pink Model proposes that people are most motivated when they are engaged in tasks that are significant to them have a sense of autonomy and competence.
