[Audio] Hello! Welcome to our new series of critical appreciation. In This Episode we will be reading the critical appreciation of the poem Where the mind is without fear by Rabindranath Tagore..
[Audio] This Wonderful poem "Where the mind is without fear" is penned down by the great poet " Rabindranath Tagore". This poem was taken from an anthology " Gitanjali" which was previously written in Bengali and later Tagore himself translated it into English. This poem has no Rhyming scheme as it is written in free verse. There are many figure of speeches, such as: Alliteration - 'Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high'. The sound donated by the letter 'wh' is repeated. Synecdoche - "Into that heaven of freedom, my father, let my country awake". The 'country' refers to the people of the country. Metaphor - "Into that dreary desert sand of dead habit". 'dreary desert' is implicitly compared with dead habit. The Central idea of the poem is that the poet is not happy with the present situation of the country and hopes for a better country. This poem is a prayer to god. Tagore addresses god as 'my father' and wishes to make his country a heaven of freedom, where people have total freedom of good thoughts, good words and good actions. I like this poem very much as it teaches me to pray not only for myself but for the country too. Tagore not only prayed for political freedom but also appealed to god for social, educational and economical freedom for the people of India. The figure of speeches add poetic meaning to the poem, making it delightful to read. I am sure everyone will love this poem..
