Dawn’s parents were invited to come to the UK from formerly British Guiana in 1960.

Dawn’s Father qualified as a Civil Engineer and her Mother a Nurse.

In 1965, Dawn’s father was headhunted to work in Zambia; after their independence to redesign their Railways.

Dawn was born on 7th June 1968 in Kabwe, Zambia.

Dawn began her career at 16, as a McDonalds Lobby Hostess, hosting the children’s parties and managing the

very busy dining area; whilst in the 6th form and then Uni.

In 1988, when Dawn was 20, she was appointed as a Customer Adviser for Nationwide Building Society. By the age of 23, she 
was promoted and became the youngest, female, black Nationwide Branch Manager in its then 143 years history; managing

Dawn has taken inspiration from her parents, as she can remember from an early age, that they were very passionate 
regarding everyone being treated fairly.  Therefore, it was a comfortable transition for her when she started working for 
Nationwide, that she would join the Union, where she was escalated to become a National Regional Officer sitting on the

. . . 'blunteering to help our community. EQUALITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
During her 30 years working for Nationwide, she was also the first Chairperson appointed for the Ethnic Minorities, providing advice and recommendations directly to Nationwide Senior Directors and the Nationwide Broad..

EQUALITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
During her 30 years working for Nationwide, she was also the first Chairperson 
appointed for the Ethnic Minorities, providing advice and recommendations directly to 
Nationwide Senior Directors and the Nationwide Broad.

She created innovative policies for the Nationwide’s Black, Asian & Ethnic Minority 
employees across, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, to be recognised for 
their excellence and propelled to more Senior Roles.  Dawn was voted several times as 
one of the top Nationwide Building Society employees and became their Equality 
Ambassador and Equality Mentor to Senior Directors. She was told by the Board, “You 
changed Nationwide”. During this time, Dawn also became Nationwide’s South National 
Lead for BAME Engagement. Her objectives were: Acting as a key point of contact 
for employees (over 18,000). Dawn has been the Public face of Nationwide Building 
Society since 2003 and they still in 2021 continue to use her image to promote Equality, 
Diversity, Inclusion and Citizenship.

She is educated to postgraduate level in Civil Law, Finance, HR, Marketing and Financial 
Services.

She have travelled to 5/7 Continents, hundreds of Countries and Cities from Dubai, 
Hawaii, Bali, Kenya, Dutch Guiana, North America and Singapore to name a few. Dawn 
has also trekked through the Amazon.

After 30 years of working for Nationwide, Dawn changed direction and went back to her first loves of Law, Film, Stage &

Screen and at the age of 52, she was selected out of hundreds of thousands of women as a ‘Dove’ model for the SKY Witness

Channel; this was based on her Protected Characteristics of Age, Gender, Disability and Ethnicity.

In the past few years Dawn has featured in numerous Productions including EastEnders, Holby City, Marks & Spencers

Christmas Commercial, Tipping Point, a George Clooney Netflix Production and a current commercial with Chris Hemsworth

Marvel’s “Thor” for Dubai Expo 2021/2022.

In May 2000, one of Dawn’s proudest moments is in collaboration with a small team, created the BBC 1’s Hit Quiz show the

‘Weakest Link’ and is the only person in the World to have appeared on it twice.

During 2022, you will be able to see Dawn in the following films and Productions: DC’s Batman with Robert Pattison, DC’s 
Morbius with Jared Leto, Aquaman 2 with Jason Momoa, BBC1’s the Spilt – Series 3, Disney+ Star Wars – Andor, ITV’s –

Trigger Point, Killing Eve, Luther and numerous others.

Dawn is a television quizzer and beat the “Beast” on the ITV show the “Chase” in 2015.

Dawn has a beautiful daughter Eleanor; who is a student at the Guildhall.

Dawn’s motto is “The only time I looked back is to see how far I have come.”

JACQUELINE MACDONALD - DAVIS BA MSc PGCE GCELDC GCCEG APM JP

As one of five girls, the family motto was always ‘education, education, education’ as well as: ‘of those to whom much is given,

much is expected’ and ‘manners maketh man [sic]’.

Jacqui started her career as a classroom teacher and then through various promotions was an advisory teacher with a local

education authority, she then went on to become a university lecturer and then Head of Staff and Organisational

Development at one of London’s’ prestigious higher education institutions.

Jacqui is a qualified, Careers Coach, Life Coach, Mediator and Myers Briggs Assessor.

She currently works for Health Education England supporting the health and wellbeing of NHS trainee medical clinicians.

Following many years of voluntary work (e.g., a lay visitor, and then as a mentor and coach for the Prince’s Trust). Jacqui

became as Magistrate; She was a member of the Central London Advisory committee an Appraiser and Mentor as well as an

Executive member of the Central and North London Magistrate Association.

She was Deputy Bench Chair of the Central London Magistrates Court, before resigning in order to become the sole Chair of

the MA Diversity and Inclusion (D&I), Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Network (November 2021).

Jacqui’s passion remains one of encouraging and promoting for, a more diverse pool of applicants to the

Bench. That is, looking beyond ethnicity to other under-represented groups, including those with a disability,

different sexual orientation, religious, class and age groups; basically, individuals from a wider socio

She has appeared on Woman’s Hour, Channel 5 News, BBC Three Counties radio and has featured in several

National newspapers. Jacqui has facilitated Webinars for the Magistrates Association; and was  the

‘voiceover ‘for the MA resource on Disproportionality in the youth criminal justice system.

She is the author of several articles and publications including ‘Portraits of Black Achievement: composing

successful careers’. She has conceptualised many innovative initiatives to support the personal and

professional development of employers and employees including the Magistrates Association, current

initiative, that is, the Digital, Photographic Gallery.

Shereen Williams is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales

(LDBCW) and Secretary to the Boundary Commission for Wales (BCW).

She has recently led on the completion an all-Wales electoral review programme which has resulted in the largest changes to 
local government electoral arrangements in over 20 years and is currently working on the Parliamentary Constituency Review

which will reduce the number of MPs in Wales to 32.

Prior to this, she worked in local government for nearly a decade across Newport and Monmouthshire Local Authorities as the

Connected Communities Manager and before that as the Regional Community Cohesion Co-ordinator for East Gwent.

The team she managed were responsible for the delivery of strategic priorities including Migration, Preventing Violent

Extremism, Equalities and Community Cohesion.

During her time in local government, she oversaw several key projects as part of her role, including the relocation of former

British Army translators from Afghanistan and the resettlement of Syrian Refugees in East Gwent.

received a Welsh Government Recognising Achievement Award for services to Community Cohesion from the then First

Minister of Wales, Rt. Hon. Carwyn Jones AM.

In 2017 she was awarded an honorary MBE for community service and in 2018 she was recognised by the Association to 
Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in their Influential Leaders Challenge, which honours notable international

alumni from AACSB-accredited business schools.

In February 2020, she was made an Officer of the Order of St John and in November 2021, a Deputy Lieutenant in the

Shereen is a governor of two Welsh medium primary schools in Newport and more recently, due to the ridiculous amount of

time she spends at the rugby club that her two young sons play for, she is now a member of the club’s Minis and Juniors

q provided opportunities for Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic Magistrates to

network with their peers across England and Wales

q generated discourse around the issues affecting Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic

Magistrates (who are members of the MA) and advise, inform, and work with 
the MA HQ to address issues raised and

q advise, inform, and work with the MA HQ on the creation of routes to the

recruitment of Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic Magistrates.

Conducted a Survey highlighting issues that Black, Asian & Minority 
Ethnic Magistrates face on the Bench as well as from Employers (report 
shared with MA HQ and will form part of the Spring Event for  Black, 
Asian & Minority Ethnic Magistrates. Several Recommendations have 
been highlighted and will inform the workplan for 2022/2023.

Invited Rt Hon David Lammy MP to the MA National Conference and 
hosted the Q&A conversation with him (October 2021) on a range of 
topics including his Report of 2017, what needs to happen to ensure 
that the magistracy has the tool as well as the capacity to do its job, 
disproportionality and the criminal justice system, what could be done 
to better recognise the role of magistrates and what would make the 
work of the magistracy even better. The conference was virtually 
attended by approx. 300+ magistrates. The Exec facilitated the 
conference breakout session on the MA’s Diversity and Inclusion 
Networks.

Following the success of Jacqui’s publication 
‘Portraits of Black Achievement, composing 
successful careers’, she used the concept of her 
book to developed the idea of creating a Virtual 
Photographic Gallery. Impact: The aim of this 
initiative is for the images to reflect and celebrate the 
diversity of magistrates and to support the national 
recruitment of Magistrates. To accompany the 
photos, Magistrates were asked to choose one word
which they feel reflects something about themselves, 
that resonates with their life experience and 
perspectives. As well as a short sentence that 
explains the choice of word.

The interview process for Magistrates has undergone a rigorous redesign, to ensure that it address issues of

equity and inclusion. Jacqui was invited to take part in a trial of the interview questions as part of the

development of the new interview structure for the Magistrates’ recruitment process.
