[Audio] Tinuy-an fall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls here in the Philippines, owning its title of the Crown Jewel of Surigao-del-Sur, and claims to be the largest waterfall in the country..

Mindanao has several stunning tourist attractions from virgin beaches, and other unspoiled natural features that will have you coming back, and one of that features is the Tinuy-an Falls. Because of its amazing beauty, it is known as Surigao del Sur's Crown Jewel. But because it is not as commercialized and well-known as places like Cebu, Boracay, and  Siargao , visiting this place may result in only a few travelers.

According to legend, harsh masters from Agusan's hinterlands enslaved the Magdiwata Mountain people. They were harassed and forced to perform difficult manual labor. The valiant Indians, fed up with the mistreatment, banded together and devised a strategy to put an end to it. So, one day, while rowing the bamboo raft on which their owners were seated, the slaves leapt off and purposefully pushed the bamboo raft down the rock of the waterfalls, killing all their ruthless masters. This is how they attained the independence for which they had yearned for so long.

[Audio] Aside from its beauty and history, this place is also home to many species of animals such as birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, freshwater fish, and crabs, with 91 animal species and 144 plant species found in the area, 33 of which are threatened with extinction, according to studies. Because of this, the falls were designated as one of Caraga's three protected areas under Republic Act No. 11038, or the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 2018..

Tinuy-an, unlike other waterfalls, contains natural pools into which visitors can dip. The second waterfall's natural pool is the largest, as it is the tallest of the three tiers. It is large enough to accommodate bamboo rafts to transport visitors closer to the falls.
