[Audio] In 1967 the ASEAN organization was founded by foreign ministers of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Together they sat down in the main hall of the Department of Foreign Affairs building in Bangkok to sign a document that later on give birth to Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN)..
[Audio] The five foreign ministers who signed the said document was Adam Malik of Indonesia, Narciso R. Ramos, Tun Abdul Razak, S. Rajaratham, and Thanat Khoman. They hailed as the founding fathers of probably the most successful inter-governmental organization in the developing world today. The document that they signed that day would be known as the ASEAN declaration..
[Audio] After the five countries who founded the ASEAN other countries have also joined the organization to build good relationship with one another. These countries are Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia..
[Audio] The ASEAN goal is to improve the economic, political, and security cooperation with its ten members. They signed the treaty of amity and cooperation that emphasizes piece, friendship, and cooperation so that they can build solid organization in 1967..

[Audio] The emblem represents peaceful, stable, united and dynamic ASEAN. The four colors blue, red, yellow, and white represents the colors of the state crest of all members of the ASEAN member states. Blue represents stability and peace. Red represents courage and dynamism. Yellow represents prosperity. White represents purity. The circle of the logo represents the unity of the ASEAN members. The stalks of padi at the center of the logo represents the dream of the founding fathers of ASEAN with all the countries in Southeast Asia bound together in friendship and solidarity..

Key initiatives include promoting tourism, easing travel restrictions, increasing food production, liberalizing trade, improving intraregional trade, and fostering cooperation in mass media. These efforts are geared towards enhancing regional integration, boosting economic development, and fostering cultural exchange within Southeast Asia..
[Audio] The aims and purposes of ASEAN are to accelerate economic growth, social progress, and cultural development in the region, promote regional peace and stability, collaborate among member states and with other countries, advance the region's interests including economic and trade growth, and adhere to the principles of the United Nations Charter.
