Introduction Background Information The purpose of this report is to focus on the issues relevant to the UAE while taking the help from a selected movie. The movie that we have selected is named as “No Time to Die” released in 2021. The report entails discussion over challenges / concepts and issues studies in the movie, reasons and importance for the challenges/ concepts/ issues being studied from the selected movie to be addressed, the role of personality, emotions, motivation, and perception in managerial decision making are important for human behavior and labor-management practices in organizations and also the report covers the recommendations for the implications relevant to the UAE in terms of individual and group behaviors, leadership and ethical issues on organizational performance etc. The message given in this movie is based on the fact that we have all the time in the world. This move was led by the Star Daniel Craig and his tenure as the James Bond comes to an end in this movie and this movie is a groundbreaking movie in a lot of ways and it also bring the arc of character of James Bond to a close in satisfying and conclusion fashion that was not observed in his predecessors. There are many leadership lessons that we may take from this movie and these lessons will help us in understanding challenges in relationship with organizational environment in UAE. The report is focused on workplace application of power, ethical leadership and conflict resolution by reviewing the human behaviors and labor management practices in companies along with impact of individual and group behaviors, leadership and ethical issues on organizational performance. (Castillo & Trinh, 2018).
The thesis statement of this report in relationship with the movie selected and as per the competitive working environment of UAE is mention below: “ Role of good leadership is imperative for prudent decision making and competitive working environment in organizations ” Three main supporting points from Movie There are few points or statements that can be discussed for supporting the thesis statement. The selected movie gives an important and dynamic role of a leader that is the Hero of the Movie “James Bond” there are different leadership lessons that we can learn from his character in the movie. Therefore, we may focus on the fact that good leadership is very important for organizations for taking prudent and timely decisions in uncertain situations especially. Furthermore, leaders have very essential role for organizations to motivate employees, to inspire others in team and to make an example for others to be followed. Leaders have direct impact on the moods, behaviors and performances of the employees. It is very important for the leaders to deal with conflict management and to remember to deal with situations and be tempted to get engaged in non-related issues. Leaders have to ensure that they communicated with their team continuously to articulate a proper vision. Leaders are the ones who should be very clear about their goals and instructions that can help them in taking quick actions and decisions. Leaders also play very important role in making competitive working environment in organizations. The competitive working environment is founded on motivation of employees, appreciations given to team members, conflict resolutions, time management, calm and flexible personality of the leaders and prudent decision making skills of the leaders. All these factors play valuable role in making a person a very good leader as we may see in the role of James Bond in the selected movie. (Patria, 2021).
Identification of the challenges/ concepts/ issues being studied from the selected movie Leaders have to play smart and cool There are some issues and concepts have been discussed in the movie i.e. No Time to Die. At first we may discuss the most important concept that is personality and role of leader in uncertain situation. The personality of the James Bond is very calm and dynamic. We may take lessons of the leadership from his personality. It can be argued that leaders have to play smart role in difficult and uncertain situations. James Bonds is the epitome of the coolness and he knows very well how to stay well-balanced and rationale under the high and unexpected pressure and situations respectively. In a scene when James Bond and Madeleine were moving in their car the bad guys came and surrounded their car. They started to shoot the car and the Madeleine got shocked and begins freaking out. She was quite terrified meanwhile we may observe the James Bond who was sitting next to her in very cool and collected pace. He was just observing the situations and then when we found feasible he took the action and responded back to the back guys. (Bursztyn et al., 2018) Need for Backup Plans by organizations Further, we may discuss the need for back-up plans in any problematic situations. Companies face different situations when their plans are failed and their strategies don’t work as per planning. Therefore, in order to run the business smoothly, companies have to take actions and work on backup planning so that businesses cannot face any legal issues and reputational losses. It is observed in the scene when a young girl was with her mother and waiting for father. However, a visitor Safin arrived and started to attack the girl. The girl (Child of Madeleine) frantically inputs the code for running into safe room but failed. The backup plan for the safety got failed but she tried her best and tried in other ways to save her life. (Napolitano et al., 2021).
Need for Forward Thinking Approach Another concept or issue is the backward approach or historical thinking pattern of the leaders in organizations. In order to compete with other companies in challenging working environment and to adopt best and new industry practices, it is very important for the companies and their leaders to focus on forward thinking approach. In this movie, there was a scene when Bond and Madeleine were driving along the shoreline. They started discussing the future and Bond was looking over his shoulder. He was looking to see who is following them and she notices his act and then she said that they cannot move on from past if they have looking over the shoulder all time. Therefore, it is important for leaders to understand that what are they looking over their shoulder for and are they scared someone can gun for their position and do they think that business deal made in previous years can be fall apart etc.? Therefore leaders cannot move into future if they keep looking towards past and there is place and time to look at the past etc. (Beaumont et al., 2022) Need to use expertise, knowledge and skills of experienced leaders in critical situations Another challenge and issue that we observe in organizations is improper utilization and un- used skills and resources of the seniors. The senior persons mostly get retired from their positions after completing their tenure and companies at that time start focusing on young and new candidates rather than using rich experiences and skills of the experienced persons going to retire. Therefore, we may take another concept or lesson from this movie that James Bond was retired from the Spy Game and he was not working as an active agent. But still he didn’t stop Felix (CIA Agent and friend of Bond) from tracking him down. When Felix needed him he requested him to return to his active job to stop an active issue. Therefore we may see that leaders can retire and they can leave their designations and positions but they should be valued and when they are needed they can be welcomed back. (Ye & Zhao, 2022).
Need for taking decisive actions Leaders should not be expected to sit around and they are not even expected to discuss this or that. Rather leaders are there to make decisions. Therefore, we may learn from this lesson that companies face issues and delays many times when leaders think more and act nothing. The leaders have to be bold enough to take decisions on time and to take action as and when required. In this movie, when Felix recruited Bond to come back and take action, the Bond was paired with Paloma and she was a new agent. The first mission was to track down a scientist in this movie and brought the platform. Paloma knew that what is required to do and she took the actions spontaneously as per the situations at that time and succeeded in taking the scientist with herself as required by Bond. She played a very good role being a leader who took decisions and actions quickly. Therefore, we may see that leaders in organizations should be stay focused on taking actions as per the situation for the betterment of the organizations and for managing the issues etc. (du Plessis, 2021) Leaders and emotional building Although role of leaders is very critical and they have to act like a strict and emotionless person but still leaders also have emotions and they should understand the emotions of others as well. Unlike other Bond Character in previous movies of this series, the James Bond in this movie reflects a very emotional personality. He is the person that not only focuses on his job duties and responsibilities with honesty but also focuses on his family and relationships as well. He is the person who loves to have family. Therefore we can learn another lesson from this movie that leaders have to consider the emotional side of their employees as well. They have to support their employees when they are in need and leaders should also give important to the emotions of their employees as well. This can help them in making good relationships with their employees and this.
can also help them in creating a warm and friendly working culture in organizations. (Enck & Simon, 2018).
Sometimes, companies focus on new employees and fresh candidates. However, this approach cannot work all the time. Companies have to use both fresh and experienced resources as both are beneficial for the growth of the companies. Another concept is to take decisive actions. Sometimes leaders waste all the time in thinking and making plans and other companies win the race. Therefore, leaders have to focus on the fact that they have to play aggressively sometimes to win the competition and to beat the other competitors. If leaders will not take prompt actions in critical situations, the companies can face losses in terms of financial and reputational manners. (Al-Wali & Al-Ansari, 2020) Another concept is to understand the emotions of employees. Leaders have to focus on their employees in terms of their productivity and feelings as well. If leaders will always act like an irrational and insensitive person then employees will not be loyal with them. Employees will just do their work as per their duty and will not work beyond their duties. In order to create a warm and home-like environment, the employees should be focused on making good relationships with their employees. The employees feel good when their leaders understand their personal needs along with financial matters. This creates good relationship among an employee and employer. (Okabe, 2017).
personality of leaders is very important for the organizations and for the behaviors of employees to work better. When leaders have charming, interactive and visionary personality, the employees can be motivated and can stay loyal with their leaders. (Spark et al., 2018) Now we may discuss the impact of emotions on human behavior and labor management practices. It is researched that emotions influence the commitment of employees, creativity, work quality, decision making and likelihood of the sticking around. This is very important to monitor and manage the feelings of the people etc. emotions are the pure human psychological phenomenon and an employee is critically affected by behaviors of their leaders in the workplaces. The emotions of an employees and overall temperament have major impact on the job performance, team spirit, and decision making skills and leadership and employees turnover. When employees feel that their leaders are emotionally attached with them their performance get betters and emotions influence directly on their performance, interpersonal relations and creativity. (Pantelis, 2018) Now referring to the role of motivation for employees and labor management practices, we may see that motivation is very important as non-motivated employees can have major negative impacts on the business. The motivation can impact positively on the quality of the work and can also help in making employees loyal with companies. When employees are not motivated, their output can be impacted negatively and high turnover is observed in organizations. The tardiness and absenteeism and many disciplinary issues can be also be emerged in companies. To bring positive changes in the behaviors of employees, the leaders are required to be aware of and to deal with ingredient to a successfully motivation formula. The managers should offer the availability for accomplishment and they should manipulate the expectancy for success and they need to take into consideration the incentives for actions that differ from person to person. Motivation is the most important tool that can move a person to take action and to continue his job with pleasure. An.
impelled employee is responsive of the definite objectives and goals to be accomplished and motivated employees direct their efforts into performance. The employee motivation and performance are key factors in running a business and employees are majorly encouraged based on different factors and one of the key factors is the role of leader. Companies have to do different activities that can help in making employees motivated and happy. Motivation has direct impact on the performance of employees and performance of the organizations. When employees are motivated they stay honest with their companies and overall chances of conflicts and resistance among employees are reduced. The healthy working culture is also important for employee motivation and this culture can be developed by effective leadership style followed by the managers in companies. (Kurniawan, 2021) Discussing the role of perception in decision making for labor management practices and for human behaviors, it can be assumed that perceptual decision making is the process wherein sensory information is used to guide the behaviors towards external world. It involved obtaining information from using senses and assessing and integrating the same as per goals of companies. People selectively interpret what they see on the basis of their background, interest, attitudes and experiences. This factor motivates employees to take decisions and decisions of the people should not be impaired with wrong perceptions. Perception plays very important role in the decision making ability of the leaders. This impact the decision making skills having strong influence and this are necessary part of the decision process and this can help decision makers to manage the employees and information prudently. The decision makers or leaders need to compare the personal observation with the experiences of others as well. Therefore, in general we may observe that role of personality, emotions, motivation, and perception in managerial decision making are extremely important for human behavior and labor-.
management practices in organizations. The companies and their leaders are required to stay upgraded to make changes in their policies, employees friendly activities and processes so that overall good relationships can be developed among employees and employers. The motivation is the core of management and team of highly talented and qualified employees is necessary for accomplishing the goals of organizations. The importance of these factors can be observed in organizations because when leaders are focused on these factors while working in companies, the performance level of employees can be improved, indifferent behaviors can be changes, resistance to change can be managed effectively and reduced, employee turnover can be reduced and absenteeism can also be reduced. The healthy corporate image can be built easily and productive use of resources can be assured. The efficiency can be increased and goals can be achieved in organizations under the supervisions of dynamic leaders. The development of friendly relationships among employer and employees can be sustained and the stability in the workforce can be ensured..
Therefore managers and the owners of companies can bring positive values belonged to other cultures in their companies to make them updated, advanced and competitive. Referring the impact of individual and group behaviors, we may see that individual behaviors are the way wherein an individual reacts or behaves at his place of work. This is the combination of the reactions to external and internal stimuli. This is the way a person will respond under distint conditions and can express different emotions for example love happiness, rudeness, anger and others. Individual behavior is very important for the working environment. This creates an impact on the organizational performance. The positive behavior can lead to promote the productivity in organizations. On the other hand, negative behavior can cause damages and can bring heavy losses for the organizational performance. In this manner, the group behaviors can also be influenced by the leaders by inculcating a working culture wherein employees can work with each other and can share their ideas with each other. The leaders can understand and know the skillset and capabilities of each employee and they can give respective jobs and duties to employees in a group so that every employee can excel while working in a group. The individual and group behaviors of the employees can be changed and improved by offering different incentives and by satisfying their needs. For example: Physical environment of the organization can have positive impact on the individual and group behaviors of employees. This is based on different factors like cleanliness, lightning, noise, heat, strength of employees, office furnishing and other factors that can make a workplace attractive. Structure and design is also another important factor that is related with setting up design of departments in a better manner. Individual behavior is influenced by where a person.
perfectly fits in a hierarchy of the company. This can impact positively on performance of all employees working in different groups. Reward system is another factor as if organization is having fair reward system the organization can compensate the employees as per their performance. This may motivate the employees and can enhance the overall performance of employees resulting in organizational performance. Referring to the impact of leadership on organizational performance, we may see that leadership has direct cause and effect relationship upon companies and their successes. Leaders can determine change tolerance, culture, values and employee motivation. Leaders can shape institutional strategies including their implementation and effectiveness. The leaders can appear at any level of organization and these are not exclusive to the management. Successful leaders influence the employees positively and can motivate them to work better. Leadership can have tremendous impacts on the organizational culture and they can define the agenda, can prioritize the work, can manage and lead employees and can also delegate others. The effective leaders can offer a sense of purpose, vision, mentorship and inspiration for others. Today organizations have diversified workforce for example in UAE organizations, there is diversified population of employees and role of leaders in this kind of situation is very important. Leaders are the ones those can reshape the overall organizational working culture and behaviors of their employees. This is very important for personal and professional success. ("UAE government", 2022) Regarding ethical issues and impact on organizational performance, we may refer the ethical leadership that has an influence on different things. The ethical leadership has an influence on job satisfaction, organizational citizenship, organizational commitment, stress, turnover of employees and others. The ethical leadership has positive impact on organizational performance. Leaders are.
responsible to generate good ethical environment based on code of conduct and other ethical standards. Ethical leadership is related positively to the organizational outcomes for example satisfaction and low turnover. Ethical leadership may increase the employee satisfaction in organization and commitments of employees while reducing chances of conflicts and resistance. When there is no ethical working environment in organizations, the organization can lose its credibility and negative impacts can be observed on the brand image of companies. Leaders and company can lose brand and respect from employees and they can lose the credibility within general public. This may result in reduced sales, major financial harm and loss of customers. Recommendations Considering the environment of UAE and lessons learnt from the movie Time to Die, we may see that companies working in UAE can follow below mentioned recommendations: The leaders working in UAE companies should be focused on the cultural values. The UAE organizations are highly focused on their Emirati culture wherein element of respect is considered as high as possible. Therefore the code of conduct made by HR department of companies should be highly concerned for developing an effective code of conduct for their organizations to be followed by all employees. This can help positively to the motivation of employees and can also impact positively on behaviors of individual and group levels etc. Leaders working in UAE organizations should be focused on offering flexible and friendly working environment. The people living in UAE want good and effective workplace so that they can maintain a peaceful and effective workplace. Government of UAE also issue instructions for the companies to consider the needs of employees and also legal and regulatory regime is quite strict in UAE. The labor law clearly says that companies have to.
focus on compliance with all legal requirements giving rights to the employees. Therefore leaders in UAE companies should comply with all requirements so that a positive working culture can be developed. Leaders in companies should focus on their personality and their leadership styles as well. If leadership style is not aligned with the organizational requirements and is not aligned with the behaviors of employees, this may impact negatively on the overall organizational productivity. This is quite important for the companies and their leaders. Therefore, we may see that there are many leadership styles that can be followed by leaders as per the situations. Generally people prefer working in companies where leaders follow visionary and participative leadership style. The managers have to develop backup plans so that companies can run their businesses and can manage the uncertainties in any difficult situations. For example Emirates NBD, Mashreq bank and other banks in UAE survive and continue their businesses in covid- 19 pandemic due to internet banking and digital channels offered to their customers. The leaders should also understand emotions of employees and should consider them as part of family so that they can be motivated and they can stay loyal with their organizations and leaders. Leaders have to take actions spontaneously as and when required for the betterment of their organizations. The need for quick decision making is very important for the companies and their leaders. It is very important for the leaders to observe the situations, accept the issue, focus on ground realities, suggest new alternative plans and then decide one best solution quickly..
